The Union has been successful in a £30,000 bid to help improve the quality of information that is provided to incoming students about what kind of experience they can expect the Students’ Union to deliver whilst they’re at University.
The money will be spent on employing new staff and investing in new equipment to help the Union communicate with students in new innovative ways. The project will also create social media infrastructure for students to better engage with each other and their course for the next academic year. The project will be delivered by a task and finish group set up in the Union consisting of Full Time Officers, Union staff and a senior member of the University marketing team.
Education Officer Zahid Raja said, “This is about getting incoming students excited and invested in what our Students’ Union has to offer. When this project is completed, it will showcase every activity the Students’ Union provides as well as how we aim to recognise it to help future employers recognise your hard work whilst at University. The website will introduce new students to accurate information about how they can get involved outside of their studies and how these opportunities can change lives as well as future prospects.”
Pro Vice Chancellor Hilary Lappin-Scott said: “With the introduction of the Higher Education Achievement Report, I’m delighted to see this project move forward. I think it’s important to remember that we have one of the best Students’ Unions in Wales, and this project will go some way in highlighting the exciting extracurricular opportunities open to our students before they even arrive on campus.”
This strategic project will overhaul how the Union reaches students when individuals are accepted by Swansea University on UCAS (post-results day.) It is expected that the full benefits of this announcement won’t be seen until the 2014/15 cohort come through our doors.
