Swansea students have talked their way in to winning the Welsh National Debating Competition last month.
Swansea University Students’ Union Debating Society took part in the Welsh Mace in Aberystwyth, successfully competing in four rounds before reaching the final.
The team came up against three other teams from Cardiff and Aberystwyth before winning the competition, the first time Swansea has ever done so.
Following on from the success of the win, team members Ieuan Skinner and Liam Dodd will be travelling to Dublin to take part in the International Mace, where they are hoping to replicate Swansea’s strongest performance on record.
The society are hoping to take their debating skills further afield and are aiming to build up enough funds to attend the European Championships in Zagreb, Croatia later this year. The team are also encouraging local students to get involved in the activity by holding their own competition on campus on the 15th February.
