Union Helps In Nepal Disaster Fundraising
Swansea University Students’ Union helped join the effort to raise money for the Nepalese earthquake disaster this Tuesday. In partnership with the charity ShelterBox, Swansea University Students’ Union rallied together students across the campus in a bid to raise money for survivors still living in the devastated areas, hosting an emergency tent and a bake sale outside Fulton House.
ShelterBox is a charity which provides emergency shelter and vital supplies to support communities which have been overwhelmed by the disaster and humanitarian crisis. So far the earthquake is thought to have killed some 5,500 people in Nepal; to put this in perspective, that’s every administrative and postgraduate students at the University.
Matthew Roberts from ShelterBox was quoted as saying “The main goal will be to asses those worst effected and to assist them by providing shelter warmth and dignity in the form of a big green ShelterBox. Although the equipment is a short term solution to get those worst affected up on their feet following a natural or manmade disaster, it is often the case that the equipment will form a vital part of life for many years to come as people rebuild their lives.”
Through the students’ great baking and ShelterBox’s eye catching emergency tent over £600 was raised for the Nepalese crisis. This money will help those effected by the earthquake in a desperate bid to return to normality.

Er bod y cyfarpar yn ateb tymor byr i rai a effeithir gwaethaf gall helpu cael fyny ar eu traed yn dilyn trychineb, yn aml mae’r cyfarpar yn rhan hanfodol i fywyd llawer o bobl am flynyddoedd wrth ailadeiladu eu bywyd.”
