The First Team for Swansea University Equestrian Club finished first place in their away competition at Aberystwyth this week.
Despite not knowing the competition ground and riding unfamiliar horses the team were able grab a well deserved win.
The first team consisting of, Simon Leng, Jess Hassell, Ben Fitzpatrick and Rosie Wilson went in to the competition virtually on a level pegging with Aberystwyth whilst Cardiff were out in front.
After the first dressage phase had been completed the Swansea team found they had slipped quite a few points behind the leaders with the Show Jumping Round still ahead. Simon Leng, Captain of the First team said “Naturally going into the show jumping phase we weren't overly confident but gave it our best shot”.
The team’s hard work paid off and a successful round with nearly all the riders having a clear round’s jumping saw Swansea win their final away competition.
The team scores were incredibly close, with Swansea on 58 penalties, Cardiff on 61 and Aberystwyth on 64.
