Full Time Officer Positions - Which 5.... You Decide

Next academic year, there will be an election for 5 Full Time Officer positions. We’d like you to tell us what you think those 5 positions should be.

****Consultation Extended*****

Next term, there will be an election for 5 Full Time Officer positions. 5 Full Time Officers who will lead the Students' Union for 2014/15. We’d like you to tell us what you think those 5 positions should be.

We asked NUS to produce a report indicating what those 5 positions should be. Click here to access the report. We'd like you to read the report and by January 17th tell us what you think those positions should be and why they're important to you through an online survey - click here to access. You must log in to participate and you may return to change your contribution anytime before 12 noon on January 17th.

We'd quite like it if you could copy and paste the above and stick it in your course / house facebook group so as many people as possible can have their say on what the 5 Full Time Officer positions should be.

-> The full 7 to 5 Saga:

Earlier this term a referendum took place asking students if they wanted to reduce the number of Full Time Officers from 7 to 5 in favour of more permanent staff to support students over the long term: http://www.swansea-union.co.uk/blogs/blog/President/2013/09/24/The-Future-of-Your-Students-Union/

Students overwhelmingly votes yes to this proposal: http://www.swansea-union.co.uk/news/article/susu/Results-of-the-Referendum-Vote/

Following the vote, the Students’ Union asked the National Union of Students to independently put together a report on what those 5 positions should be. In a report released last week, NUS did indeed outline what exactly the positions should be. However, following internal criticism of the report within NUS, NUS apologised and withdrew their report and gave the Students’ Union a new report without naming what the 5 positions should be. They have however alluded to what they should be through the section labelled ‘potential innovations’.

You can access the final report by clicking here.

-> So what’s next?

The Students’ Union constitution states that in order to change the schedules (the bit where the names of the Officers are located) the Students’ Union must first consult with students, secondly make a decision at the Executive Committee, and then finally get it signed-off from the Trustee Board.

On the 17th of January the consultation will close and a poll will be released  allowing all students to vote on the options that will have been taken from the consultation.

YOU CAN HAVE YOUR SAY ON WHAT SHOULD HAPPEN BY CLICKING HERE.

Between now and January 17th, we're asking students to read the new report and tell us what you think the 5 positions should be. You should use the report and its recommendations as a starting point instead of seeing it as ‘the solution’. You can go back to the Students’ Union website to amend your response at any time before January 17th by logging in.
