Clement Marfo & The Frontline

After an epic night in the Student Union back in September 09, feedback for Clement Marfo + The Frontline was exceptional, so after a few phones calls back and forth the band have happily agreed to return to Swansea.

The front man of the group, Clement, is noted as a passionate recording artist whose conscious song writing skills reflect a mature outlook on reality, blending well with his evident sense of humour and positive, uplifting personality. His dynamic performing qualities as well as his unique style clearly stems from his wide range of musical influences, which span from both the US and UK. As a result of his prominent creativity, Marfo's specialities lie in his song writing ability.

Together with his band, The Frontline, he incorporates a fusion of musical styles from Rock, Indie, Soul, and Funk. This unique blend of upbeat, colourful music has created a refreshing mix that appeals to the mainstream world. Expect to feel a rush of energy and a genuine mixture of music when they perform live at the Summer Ball 2010.

Florence & The Machine

Her debut album ‘Lungs’ is made of harps, choirs, drums, elevator shafts, bits of metal, love, death, fireworks, string quartets, stamping, sighing, strange electronic wailing, lambs, lions, sick, broken glass, blood, moon, stars, drink, coffins, teeth, water, wedding dresses.. and the silences in between. As for The Machine, it’s a flexible beast. It can go right down to Florence and a drum kit or a piano, but right now it’s a seven-piece band including long-term collaborators Rob Ackroyd (guitar), Chris Hayden (drums), Isabella Summers (keyboards) and Tom Monger (harp). “I’ve worked with most of them for a long time and they know my style, know the way I write, they know what I want.”

Live, Florence and The Machine become an entirely different beast. No two performances are ever alike, and clad in clothes often culled from local second-hand shops that day, Florence goes at it like a woman possessed. “It’s just this sense of total freedom,” she says. “It sounds so cheesy, but I want to touch people. Not in a weird way. I just want to help them feel what I’m feeling.”

Two Door Cinema Club

Two Door Cinema Club are an upbeat indie-pop group from Bangor, Northern Ireland, comprising of three guitars, some jaunty keyboards and a newly installed whizz-kid drummer. The youthful group, together since early 2007, gave up university places after things started taking off and have been signed to hip Parisian label, Kitsune, the same as La Roux and Bloc Party.

The last year has been a whirl wind of events for Alex, Kevin and Sam and have recently come off tour with electro- indie outfit Delphic and are soon to embark on their own headlining tour of the UK. Named among acts such as Ellie Goulding, Owl City, Delphic, Marina and the Diamonds and The Drums in the BBC’s top 15 acts to look out for in 2010, Two Door Cinema Club are a band set to make a name for themselves this Summer. “Although Bloc Party and Editors are the most obvious influences to these youngs lads musical tastes, listeners may also be reminded of Radiohead in the days when they were more interested in rocking than doing maths. Their latest single, “I Can Talk”, it’s nothing less than stunning; an inspired blend of melody and pugnacious drive that recalls The Futureheads at their absolute best.” BBC MUSIC
