Every three years we are audited to see how we're doing environmentally, find our results here and our recommendations to improve!

Green Impact Awards

We recieved gold award in the Student Union's Green Impact awards for two years running, a very big achievement.

We Love To Recycle!

The Students’ Union has various recycling collections in place:

Household batteries- there are collection points in all our stores and one in the General Office

Mobile Phones- we supply envelopes in the General Office to recycle your old phones

Books- there is a book collection point in the Events and Societies Office to help the English Society collect books for charity

Paper/Cans/Plastic bottles can all be recycled at our various communal bins around the building

Campus Biodiversity Trail

The Nature Trail is an exciting initiative between the Sustainability Team and Bioscience Department which encourages  staff, students and visitors to utilise the campus grounds to stretch their and get some fresh air, and to discover the diverse habitats and wildlife we have on our doorsteps.

Student Switch Off

The student switch off is a campaign to encourage students living in halls to switch off lights, only fill the kettle to what they need and switch appliances off. Check if there are any competitions running at the moment, by clicking here.

Greener Transport

Air travel is one of the most damaging forms of transport to the environment and we have an active policy in place banning Union staff members from domestic flights. Please help us to support this project and seek alternative travel!

The Union's Travel Shop in Fulton House can provide cheap alternative travel to flying, please pop in and have a chat with one of our friendly staff!

Cycling is one of the greenest forms of transport and can help you keep fit!! Click here to see a map of all the cycling facillites available on campus.

Fairtrade Status

We are delighted that the Union and University has successfully maintained its Fairtrade status.

The Sustainability Award recognises a student’s individual contribution to sustainable development and the environment both on and off campus.

Sustainability Month 2013 (March)

SUSU and the University have been busy organising a this years sustainability month (March). There will be lots of events ranging from talks to the launch of the new biodiversity trail. Some come and join, you may even be able to bag yourself some freebies.

Past Campaigns 

Happy Cows

Most of the EU’s 27 countries don’t have specific rules for the welfare of dairy cows, as they do for pigs and hens. We are supporting an initiative that introduces rules that will protect their welfare. By joining (sharing via facebook through the link) the campaign you can tell Europe’s decision makers to show the cows some love and even help the union win free Ben & Jerry's.
