Education Officer

Your Education Officer represents all students on academic issues, both locally and nationally. Swarans’s role ensures the selection and development of Subject and College Reps for all academic departments. She also works with the University to make sure all students are receiving beneficial feedback and assessment. The role encompasses anything from employability to library fines!

Who can help me improve my grades?

Looking to improve presentation skills? Need assistance with writing techniques? Let me introduce you to some friends of mine...Swansea University’s Academic Success Programme.

The award-winning Academic Success Programme (ASP) is part of Swansea University’s Centre for Academic Success (CAS). ASP is a FREE service designed to support students throughout their studies to maximise their academic potential. And these guys ROCK!

There are so many courses to choose from! These include classes on grammar, advanced writing skills and critical thinking. You can also book one-on-one appointments to discuss any individual problems you have with your own work, especially after receiving feedback on assignments.

There are also subject specific courses on offer, with the ASP working with the colleges to provide workshops that look at particular concerns for one college!

When I was doing my postgrad dissertation, the ASP put on the best course about planning and writing up the thesis. It was an incredible experience, and I cannot praise these guys enough for all their hard work.

But ASP can help at every level for students; shiny new wide-eyed students, second or third years struggling against the tide of assignment deadlines, postgraduates and mature students who haven’t done assignments for a significant period of time.

One of my fabulous subject reps, Hannah West, said, “They were very helpful! I used ASP writing skills course and they gave me feedback on essays and showed the difference between a 2.1 and a first class degree. I thought it was extremely useful, allowing you to really ‘brush’ up on how to make your writing style stand out and add some ‘flare’. Excellent and very grateful!”

Another subject rep, Laura Ball, said, “The individual help was invaluable!”

The courses will also help with your employability; you may study hard and get good grades, but what many people do not realise is that the skills you learn at University will do far more than help you get a decent job at the end of it all. The ASP will help you refine your skills that will be with you long after you leave University. So make the most of it!

Book yourself on one of the ASP courses today! There is lots of information at www.swansea.ac.uk/asp or email the team on academicsuccess@swansea.ac.uk
