Education Officer – Personal Statement & Manifesto 

I'm finishing my Education and Psychology undergraduate degree and I have been a Rep and now College Rep since my first year. Ensuring students see learning as an enjoying and fulfilling experience and that all students from all backgrounds feel represented within the education system is hugely important to me. I have much experience advocating within my rep role, but also as part of a Welsh Government stakeholder group which represents the views of Welsh students to a variety of organisations.  

My feedback has resulted in the implementation of changes that have positively affected the students I represent, and I would like to do this on a wider level. 

I am friendly, committed, hard-working and willing to do my utmost to represent the views of the student body. I have massively enjoyed my time at Swansea Uni and I would love for other students to have the same experience.  

• Reintroduction of rewards for reps – for certain goals and tasks met, I aim to give them rewards which reflects their efforts.  

• Study Aid for healthcare students – healthcare students often do not have the same exam periods as the rest of the student body, so providing the same resources such as free teas and coffees and additional support during their revision to help during their exam periods. 

• Look at the extenuating circumstances procedures in each college and make them more cohesive – these policies differ across the university, and I aim to discuss with students what the ‘best parts’ are about theirs and make them as cohesive and fair as possible.  

• Try to bring back ‘refreshers’ week – because everyone deserves a break after the exam period! 

• Make sure lecture recordings are compulsory during online learning or have an equal alternative e.g. pre-recordings – to ensure everyone is getting as similar levels of resources as possible for their level.  

• Host frequent discussions with the student body to ensure their voices are heard, particularly with (but not limited to) underrepresented academic groups, such as BAME, students with disabilities, student carers, and work towards their needs – to ensure their views are represented in decisions and how major decisions could impact their needs.  

• Ensure students are given sufficient written feedback on assessments. 

• Continue to work with reps and ensure that student voice and concerns are at the forefront of decisions and policies.  

• Continue the work on diversifying the curriculum. 

• Look at increasing library hours during COVID – to allow for students to studier earlier or later. 

• Try to ensure academic staff are upholding the same quality of teaching that was given pre-pandemic and that they are held accountable for doing this.

Swyddog Addysg – Datganiad Personol a Maniffesto 

Rydw i ar fin gorffen fy ngradd israddedig Addysg a Seicoleg ac rydw i wedi bod yn Gynrychiolydd ac yn Gynrychiolydd Coleg ers fy mlwyddyn gyntaf. Mae sicrhau bod myfyrwyr yn gweld dysgu fel profiad sy'n bleserus ac yn foddhaus a bod pob myfyriwr o bob cefndir yn teimlo ei fod yn cael ei gynrychioli o fewn y system addysg yn hynod bwysig i mi. Mae gen i lawer o brofiad o eirioli o fewn fy rôl fel cynrychiolydd, ond hefyd fel rhan o grwp rhanddeiliaid Llywodraeth Cymru sy'n cynrychioli barn myfyrwyr Cymru i amrywiaeth o sefydliadau. 

Mae fy adborth wedi arwain at weithredu newidiadau sydd wedi cael effaith gadarnhaol ar fyfyrwyr rwy'n eu cynrychioli, a hoffwn wneud hyn ar lefel ehangach. 

Rwy'n gyfeillgar, ymroddedig, gweithgar ac yn barod i wneud fy ngorau glas i gynrychioli barn myfyrwyr. Rydw i wedi mwynhau fy amser ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe yn aruthrol a byddwn wrth fy modd pe bai myfyrwyr eraill yn cael yr un profiad.  

• Ailgyflwyno gwobrau i gynrychiolwyr – pan fod nodau a thasgau yn cael eu cyflawni, rwy'n anelu at roi gwobrau sy'n adlewyrchu ymdrechion. 

• StudyAid ar gyfer myfyrwyr gofal iechyd - yn aml nid oes gan fyfyrwyr gofal iechyd yr un cyfnodau arholiad â gweddill y myfyrwyr, felly byddaf yn darparu'r un adnoddau fel te a choffi am ddim a chymorth ychwanegol i helpu yn ystod eu cyfnodau arholiadau. 

• Edrych ar y gweithdrefnau amgylchiadau esgusodol ym mhob coleg a’u gwneud yn fwy cydlynol - mae’r polisïau hyn yn wahanol ar draws y Brifysgol, a nodaf i drafod gyda myfyrwyr beth yw’r ‘rhannau gorau’ amdanyn nhw a’u gwneud mor gydlynol a theg â phosib. 

• Ceisio ailgyflwyno Wythnos Refreshers - oherwydd mae pawb yn haeddu egwyl ar ôl cyfnod yr arholiadau!  

• Sicrhau bod recordiadau darlithoedd yn orfodol wrth ddysgu ar-lein neu fod dewis arall cyfartal e.e. recordiadau ymlaen llaw - i sicrhau bod pawb yn cael cymaint o adnoddau â phosibl ar gyfer eu lefel. 

• Cynnal trafodaethau rheolaidd gyda myfyrwyr i sicrhau bod eu lleisiau'n cael eu clywed, yn enwedig gyda (ond heb yn gyfyngedig i) grwpiau academaidd heb gynrychiolaeth ddigonol, fel BAME, myfyrwyr ag anableddau, myfyrwyr sy'n ofalwyr, a gweithio tuag at eu hanghenion - er mwyn sicrhau bod eu barn yn cael ei chynrychioli o fewn penderfyniadau a sut y gallai penderfyniadau mawr effeithio ar eu hanghenion.  

• Sicrhau bod myfyrwyr yn cael digon o adborth ysgrifenedig ar asesiadau. 

• Parhau i weithio gyda chynrychiolwyr a sicrhau bod llais a phryderon myfyrwyr ar flaen y gad o ran penderfyniadau a pholisïau.  

• Parhau â'r gwaith ar amrywio'r cwricwlwm. 

• Edrych ar gynyddu oriau agor y llyfrgell yn ystod COVID - er mwyn caniatáu i fyfyrwyr astudio yn gynharach neu'n hwyrach. 

• Ceisio sicrhau bod staff academaidd yn cynnal yr un ansawdd o addysgu ag a roddwyd cyn pandemig a'u bod yn cael eu dal yn atebol am wneud hyn.
