Maniffesto Swyddog Materion Cymraeg – Gwern Ifan Dafis
Helo. Gwern ydw i a fi’n awyddus iawn i gynrhychioli chi fel eich Swyddog Materion Cymraeg am y flwyddyn sy’n dod, 2021/22 yn y Brifysgol.
Yn wreiddiol o Dalgarreg, mae wedi gwreiddio ynddai gan fy rhieni â’m teulu fod y Gymraeg yn gwbl anatod i fywydau pobl yng Nghymru, boed siaradwyr yr iaith neu beidio, a dylsem fod mewn sefyllfa lle gall pawb gymryd bodolaeth a phwysigrwydd yr iaith yn ganiataol.
Erbyn hyn rwyf wrthi yn fy mhedwaredd flwyddyn yn astudio Cyfrifeg a Chyllid ble mae’r Brifysgol wedi cynning sawl cyfle i mi gan gynnwys:

Mynychu cyfarfodydd Pwyllgor Strategaeth yr Iaith Gymraeg
-
Blwyddyn mewn gwaith i’r GIG/NHS
-
Cyd-sefydlu Cwpan Her Rhyngol ar lein
Fel ymgeisydd ar gyfer y rôl, fy nôd fydd i dorchi llewys a sicrhau bod myfyrwyr a gweithlu’r Brifysgol yn gallu dibynnu ar y ffaith bod cyfleoedd cyfartal i bawb trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg a hyrwyddo’r iaith a diwylliant Cymru yn ddiflino.
Wrth fod yn Lywydd ar y Gymdeithas Gymraeg, rwyf wedi gallu gweld yr holl waith caled mae’r cynrychiolwyr yn ei wneud ar draws y Brifysgol, a oedd yn anhysbys i mi gynt, a fyddai’n bleser i weithio ochr yn ochr gyda.
Mae gen i syniadau newydd a gwreiddiol a mae lles y Gymraeg wrth galon yr hyn hoffwn gyflawni erbyn Medi 2022.
Addysg:
Byddaf yn sicrhau bod myfyrwyr sydd yn astudio canran/cwrs cyflawn drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg yn cael yr un gefnogaeth â gweddill myfyrwyr y Brifysgol, ac yn fwy na pharod i gynnig cymorth i’r rhai sydd angen. Fel myfyriwr ni chefais y cyfle i astudio fy nghwrs trwy’n mamiaith, felly mae gen i brofiad uniongyrchol yn fy sbarduno er mwyn gweithio’n agos gyda’r Coleg Cymraeg ac Academi Hywel Teifi i gynyddu’r amrywiaeth o bynciau sy’n cynnig modiwlau ac adnoddau yn y Gymraeg.
Dysgu Cymraeg:
Gyda lefel uwch o fyfyrwyr yn dysgu’r iaith, neu â diddordeb ynddi, mae’n bwysig fod y cyfleoedd yma ar gael i bawb. I sicrhau bod cymorth i ddysgwyr,byddaf yn cynnal sesiynau i ymarfer eu Cymraeg mewn ffordd anffurfiol megis sesiynau pop-up ar y ddau campws.
Diwylliant:
Gan fod Abertawe yn brifysgol sydd yng Nghymru, mae’n bwysig bod diwylliant Cymreig yn rhan elfennol o brofiad pob myfyriwr yma. Gobeithio erbyn i’r rôl ddechrau mi fydd cyfle i gynnal digwyddiadau i ddathlu diwrnodau cenedlaethol Cymreig, fydd yn agored i bawb, i godi ymwybyddiaeth a balchder yn ein hanes a’n traddodiadau, tra hefyd yn dangos bod y Gymraeg yn iaith fodern â diwylliant byw a chyfredol sydd â chymaint i gynnig i ni fel ieuenctid.
Byddaf yn cynnal cyfarfodydd ffurfiol ac anffurfiol ac lle bo’r angen.
Rwyn deall y cydestun a’r heriau. Rwyn gweld dyfodol disglair i’r Brifysgol a phresenoldeb y Gymraeg yn rhedeg trwy gweithgareddau’r Brifysgol gyda’r Swyddog Materion Cymraeg yn arwain y ffordd!

Welsh Affairs Officer Manifesto - Gwern Ifan Dafis
Hello. I’m Gwern and I’m keen to represent you as your Welsh Affairs Officer for 2021/22.
Originally from Talgarreg, it has been instilled in me by my family that Welsh is absolutely integral to the people of Wales, Welsh speakers or not. We should be in a position where everyone values the existence and importance of the language.
Currently a fourth year Accounting and Finance student, the University has offered me many opportunities:

Elected President of the Welsh Society

Attending meetings of the Welsh Language Strategy Committee

A year in industry with the NHS
As a candidate, I intend to roll up my sleeves and ensure that there will be equal oppurtunities offered to both students, and the University’s worforce through the medium of Welsh. Also, to promote the status of the Welsh language and culture tirelessly.
As President of the Welsh Society, I have been able to see all the hard work that the reps are doing across the University, previously unknown to me. It would be a pleasure to work alongside them.
I have new and original ideas, and the wellbeing of the Welsh language is at the heart of what I want to achieve by September 2022.
Education:
I will ensure that students who study a percentage/entirity of their course through the medium of Welsh have the same support as the rest of the University. I’m more than happy to offer help to those who need it. As a student, I didn't have the opportunity to study my course in my first language. As I have been impacted by this myself, it will drive me to work closely with the Coleg Cymraeg and Academi Hywel Teifi to increase the range of subjects that offer modules and resources in Welsh.
Learning Welsh:
With a higher level of students learning or interested in the language, it is important that these opportunities are available to all. To ensure support for learners, I will hold sessions to practice Welsh in an informal way such as pop-up sessions at each campus.
Culture:
As Swansea is a Welsh university, it is important that Welsh culture is an integral part of every student's experience here. Hopefully by the time the role begins there will be an opportunity to hold events to celebrate Welsh cultural days, which will be open to all, to raise awareness and pride in our history and traditions. I will aim to demonstrate that Welsh is a modern language with a vibrant culture, that has so much to offer us as young people.
I will hold formal and informal meetings where necessary.
I understand the role and its challenges. I see a bright future for Swansea University and the presence of the Welsh language running through the University's activities with the Welsh Affairs Officer leading the way!
This is all at the heart of my reason for applying for this vital role. Together we can raise the Welsh language!
