SWMA Talk -The Race to Decarbonise Transport by Dr Alistair Barnes

B004, Engineering Central, Swansea University Bay Campus

About

Join us for our next SWMA talk on The Race to Decarbonise Transport by Dr Alistair Barnes from Innovate UK on Thursday 2nd November from 6:15pm in B004 Engineering Central, Swansea University Bay Campus. All are welcome. There will be the usual free food and drinks.

Across the world, there is a race to decarbonise transport as part of our broader efforts to reach net zero carbon emissions. Transport is the UK’s largest emitting sector. In 2022 it accounted for one third of the UK’s territorial emissions, more than all residential and business emissions combined.

Existing technologies can be used to decarbonise surface transport, although there are challenges around scale, pace, and infrastructure. Working to address these challenges, Innovate UK is the UK’s national innovation agency and supports business led innovation in all sectors, technologies and regions. With a focus on heavy duty vehicles, this talk will look at the policy and pathways in this area. This will include a look at two important programmes: the UK’s Zero Emission Road Freight Demonstrations, and the Tees Valley Hydrogen Transport Hub.
