11 Essential Moving in Tips

11 Essential Moving in Tips

Moving into your new accommodation is a really exciting and stressful time but follow these 11 essential moving in tips and you'll be glad when it's time to move out...

1. Make sure you take lots of photos from all angles of every room inside, plus any areas around the front and back of the house.

2. Remember to ‘drop’ anything done via e-mail, into one folder in your inbox for safe keeping.

3. If the Landlord has prepared an inventory, do not be rushed into signing this. If none have been done, then do complete your own and e-mail it to yourself.

4. If you feel you have to give the house a clean when you move in, keep the receipt of the cleaning items, take a photo and send to yourself. Take photos before and after the clean.

5. If any specific promises were made when you were signing, follow these up via e-mail immediately with the agent or Landlord (if the Landlord hasn’t given an e-mail try and get one, if not then log and e-mail contacts to yourself).

6. Keep detailed diaries of dates and what you did to inform the agent or Landlord about issues. You can keep an e-mail thread ongoing with this to yourself as it will date and time things for you.

7. If after 2 weeks of trying, there are still issues within the house contact the Advice Centre so we can assist and guide you.

8. Work out a simple rota of cleaning for the house.

9. Have all housemates pay a share towards bills each month, you can pay this at the post office each month also.

10. Start preparing a list of issues that you can e-mail the agent or Landlord that you wish to be resolved over the Christmas period.

11. Please follow up any repairs etc. with us at the Advice Centre, if you come back after Christmas and there are still outstanding issues.
