Black History Month
Every year in October we celebrate Black History Month. It’s a month in which African history and heritage is celebrated throughout the UK. Such celebrations are owed to Dr Carter G Woodson, an American black scholar, who noticed from his studies that history books largely ignored the black American population.
This month, your Students’ Union will recognise and honour the often-overlooked contributions of Black History, and celebrate our diversity. We’ve got a month of events ahead of us, aimed at raising the profile of Black and Ethnic Minority heritage and culture.
We’re focussing on four main themes throughout the month; Awareness, Mental Health, AfroFusion and ShowCase.
Bob blwyddyn ym mis Hydref, rydyn ni'n dathlu Mis Hanes Pobl Dduon, Mae'n fis pan mae hanes a threftadaeth Affrica yn cael ei ddathlu ledled y DU. Mae dathliadau o’r fath yn ddyledus i Dr Carter G Woodson, ysgolhaig du Americanaidd, a sylwodd o’i astudiaethau fod llyfrau hanes yn anwybyddu poblogaeth ddu America i raddau helaeth.
Y mis hwn, bydd Undeb y Myfyrwyr yn cydnabod ac yn anrhydeddu cyfraniadau Hanes Du sy'n cael ei anwybyddu'n aml, ac yn dathlu ein hamrywiaeth. Mae gennyn ni fis o ddigwyddiadau o'n blaenau, gyda'r nod o godi proffil treftadaeth a diwylliant Du a Lleiafrifoedd Ethnig.
Rydyn ni'n canolbwyntio ar bedair prif thema trwy gydol y mis; Ymwybyddiaeth, Iechyd Meddwl, AfroFusion a ShowCase.
