Campaign Success for Robiu!

Saturday exams are officially cancelled after consultations with students and University colleges. Yesterday, at University learning and teaching, Pro-Vice Chancellor Martin Stringer announced that Saturday exams will be discontinued following the online poll held by Education Officer Robiu Salisu. The majority of Students voted ‘no’ in response to the “Should Saturday exams remain?” question.

The outcomes from the poll were:

1. No Saturday exams but longer period into revision week = 372 (36%)

2. Keep Saturday exams = 306 (30%)

3. No Saturday exams but more frequent (eg.2 per day) = 49 (5%)

4. No Saturday exams but longer period into employability week. = 302 (29%)

The turnout for the poll was over 1025 responses from students, which is an impressive engagement from the Students' Union and its Education Zone which is made up of subject and college reps.

So what does this mean? Well changes will be made for the 2017 January exam season and beyond. Saturday exams don’t currently run through June so exams this year won’t be affected. What it will mean though is that the exam period will be extended into Thursday and Friday of revision week. There will also be a undertake review of the structure of the academic year and assessments and the assessment load by the University.

Ymgyrch llwyddianus i Robiu!

Mae arholiadau ar ddydd Sadwrn yn dod i ben ar ol trafodaethau gyda cholegau’r Prifysgol. Ar ol pleidlais a ddalwyd gan ymgyrch Robiu Salisu, y Swyddog Addysg, ‘Ymgyrch Arholiadau Dydd Sadwrn’, mae arholiadau dydd Sadwrn nawr wedi eu sgrapio. Pleidleisiodd y mwyafrif ‘na’ wrth ymateb i’r cwestiwn “A ddylai arholiadau dydd Sadwrn parhau?”

Yn ol blog Robiu ar wefan yr Undeb Myfyrwyr, canlyniad y pleidlais oedd:

1. Dim arholiadau ar ddydd Sadwrn ond cyfnod hirach i mewn i’r wythnos adolygu = 372 (36%)

2. Cadw arholiadau dydd Sadwrn = 306 (30%)

3. Dim arholiadau ar ddydd Sadwrn ond arholiadau mwy aml (ee.2 mewn dydd) = 49 (5%)

4. Dim arholiadau dydd Sadwrn ond cyfnod hirach i mewn i’r wythnos cyflogadwyedd. = 302 (29%)

Pleidleisiodd dros 1025 o fyfyrwyr, sydd yn lefel trawiadol o ymgysylltiad o’r Undeb Myfyrwyr a’i Ardal Addysg sydd yn cynnwys cynrychiolwyr pwnc a cholegau.

Felly, beth mae hyn yn feddwl? Wel, bydd newidiadau yn cael eu wneud ar gyfer tymor arholiadau Ionawr 2017 ymlaen. Does dim arholiadau ar ddydd Sadwrn yn nhymor arholiadau’r haf ar hyn o bryd felly ni fydd yn cael eu effeithio. Beth fydd hyn yn meddwl yw bydd y cyfnod adolygu yn fyrach felly bydd disgwyl ar fyfyrwyr i adolygu yn ystod y gwyliau Nadolig.
