General Election 2017

8 things you'll need to know for the general election

Thursday is polling day in the General Election. 1 million people have registered to vote since the election was called – now it's time to make sure we get our voices heard.

We're doing our best to make voting as easy as possible for you so here's some things we've put together that you might want to know:

1. TIMES

Polling stations are open from 7am to 10pm.

2. POLLING CARDS AREN'T ESSENTIAL

You can still vote if you’ve lost your polling card.

3.  YOU'LL NEED SOME BASIC INFO

To vote you give your name and address to the staff inside the polling station when you arrive.

4. YOU'LL BE GIVEN THE STUFF YOU NEED

They will give you a ballot paper and a pen.

5. THERE ARE NO BARRIORS TO VOTING

If you're disabled your local Electoral Registration Office can tell you about physical access.

6.IT'S THE LAW TO PROVIDE YOU WITH ACCESS

Every polling station must provide at least one large print display version of the ballot paper and a special device so that blind and visually impaired people can vote.

7.IF YOU FORGET TO SEND YOUR POSTAL VOTE - YOU CAN STILL VOTE

If you registered for a postal vote and forgot to send it you can still vote with your postal vote by taking it to your polling station within your constituency.

8.MAKE SURE YOU KNOW WHO YOU'RE VOTING FOR ON THE DAY

Not sure who your candidates are or what they stand for? You can find out at www.whichcandidate.co.uk/
