Swansea University Students’ Union has been Highly Commended for Green Impact Students’ Unions Excellence Award. Accepting the commendation at the NUS Students’ Union Awards, the award recognises the Students’ Unions long running commitment to improving the environment on and around campus.
Green Impact provides a framework for greening students’ unions, covering actions around waste, travel, procurement, biodiversity, energy use, and student engagement. The Excellence accreditation is a year-long reward project which allows students’ unions who have achieved a Green Impact Gold award for two consecutive years to take a year’s break from the workbook.
To gain the accreditation Swansea University Students’ Union focused on sustainable travel, a hot topic with the upcoming dual campus. Swansea University Students’ Union teamed up with the Sustainability Team in Swansea University to organise monthly library stands with the aim to engage students and share information face to face on various sustainable methods of travelling. Every month the Union presented a new theme and focus ensuring that sustainable travel was transparent and accessible to students.
Receiving the award at the NUS Students’ Union Awards, Welfare Officer Lloyd Harris said:
‘I am absolutely delighted that our union has won this award! It's a true testament to the hard-working staff who have risen to a challenge larger than the Green Impact workbook. This couldn't have been achieved without the dedicated people involved who have given up a large portion of their time to the project’
The Students’ Union is looking forward to continuing the effort to make our Union greener.

Mae Undeb Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Abertawe wedi cael ei Ganmol Llawer ar gyfer Gwobr Rhagoriaeth Effaith Gwyrdd Undeb y Myfyrwyr. Trwy dderbyn y canmoliaeth yn noson wobrwyo’r Undeb Myfyrwyr NUS, cydnabyddir ymrwymiad parhaol Undeb y Myfyrwyr i wella’r amgylchedd ar ac oddi ar y campws.
Mae Effaith Gwyrdd yn darparu fframwaith ar gyfer gwneud Undebau Myfyrwyr yn fwy gwyrdd, gan gynnwys gweithredoedd ar wastraff, trafnidiaeth, caffael, bioamrywiaeth , y defnydd o ynni , ac ymgysylltu â myfyrwyr. Mae’r achrediad o Ragoriaeth yn brosiect wobrwyol flwyddyn o hyd sy’n galluogi Undebau Myfyrwyr sydd wedi cyflawni gwobr Effaith Gwyrdd Aur dwy flynedd yn olynol i gymryd saib o’r llyfr gwaith am flwyddyn.
Er mwyn ennill yr achrediad canolbwyntiodd Undeb Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Abertawe ar drafnidiaeth cynaliadwy, sy’n agwedd pwysig ar hyn o bryd gyda’r campws newydd yn dod. Gweithiodd Undeb Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Abertawe gyda Thîm Cynaliadwyedd ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe i drefnu stondinau misol yn y llyfrgell er mwyn ymgysylltu a rhannu gwybodaeth wyneb yn wyneb â myfyrwyr ar amryw ddull cynaliadwy o deithio. Pob mis fyddai’r Undeb yn cyflwyno thema newydd a chanolbwyntio fod trafnidiaeth cynaliadwy yn amlwg ac yn hygyrch i fyfyrwyr.
Pan yn derbyn y wobr yn noson wobrwyo’r Undeb Myfyrwyr NUS, dwedodd Lloyd Harris y Swyddog Lles:
