Honorary Lifetime Membership

Massive congrats to all of the following for recieving Honorary Lifetime Membership to the Union! We'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you for all your hard work in changing the student experience for the better.

Luanne Thornton
"Created alone and runs 2 football leagues. (Taken 11 a side to Varsity), played in Varsity for women’s football, and been part of the first korfball team and first squad that successfully went on to the national plate. Student welfare through being a welfare Warden on HSV and Bay Campus."

Jack Stacey
"He was Ethics Officer, an NUS delegate and part of societies across the Uni, including Labour Students where he was Chair, he’s been a friendly face and is always helpful whenever someone needs a hand, made student involvement in SU policy easy to get into."

Shona Johnson
"Whilst university mental health services are now under external review she is currently students main point of contact, which is an incredibly tasking job both physically and psychologically, she is passionate, caring, and too often overlooked in recognition of her numerous achievements. Shona has left the union in a better state than she found it, students always came first, often above her own welfare."

Emily Maybanks
"Not only is she the creative writing section editor as well as one of the deputy editors, she also spends a lot of time helping to design the Waterfront each month, thus ensuring that the paper looks its best. Emily also inspired me to not only write for the paper, but become a section editor myself and therefore I am continuing as the new study abroad section editor next year."

Bronwyn Satterly
"Student Staff, events team, receptionist, marketing assistant. She has been invaluable in helping with the running of larger annual events such as Fresher’s week, Varsity, Summer Ball as well as the weekly GWA sports nights. Her involvement with the University Netball team alongside her studies and her work for the SU has proven she is also a fantastic team player with plenty of commitment and motivation to drive the best results from others around her.Because of all her hard work she will always be welcomed back to Swansea Student’s Union and feel there is no better way to show this than to present her with Honorary Lifetime Membership."

Liam McDonald
"Head of Tech for Xtreme radio for two years and being heavily involved in everything that Xtreme does. He has also helped SUTV hugely in their live events by teching Varsity and their Election live streams. He has devoted his student life to Swansea Student Media."

Gwyn Aled Rennolf
"Started Clwb Rygbi Tawe, the Universities first Welsh Language Sports Club. He was president and Head coach for the club for 3 years which he did completely voluntary. In addition, he got our club involved with the community i.e. with local litter picking. Part of the Sports Exec last year which was also voluntary and played in Varsity in his first year for the American football team. I think Gwyn has done a great job as Sports Officer. He has helped our club a lot this year as I’m sure he has to other clubs."

Megan Thomas
"Debating, English and Creative Society committee member – sent students abroad. News Editor for Waterfront. Meg undoubtedly characterises what is missing from the Students Movement nationally in many ways, with a clear focus on getting-the-job-done as well as being inclusive for as many students as possible."

Gareth Lynn Montes
"Politics, Campaigning and Liberation – Society Exec (2 terms), Organised PCL forum on Boycott the NSS Debate, Chair of Marxist Society, President of Students for Europe Society, helped create Model United Nations Society. Gareth is seen as an approachable person by people even with different political opinions and is always willing to help."

Shaun Bendle
"Chair of Politics and IR Society, Labour Society Committee, founder of Model UN Society, Student for Europe campaign and various other campaigns aimed at improving the lives of students. Co-founder of Swansea Elects, providing an exit poll on SU elections. Shaun has also taken an active role in encouraging political participation by students both in student and national politics. Worked with student media to provide coverage of both general elections and SU elections."
