Societies & Services Officer

As a student, Chris sat on the Geology Committee for 3 years. He's a Geography graduate which gives him a passion for the environment and travelling. He's got a year's experience of being your Societies and Services Officer under his belt, but he decided he's got more to offer. His quick wit and caring attitude make him a much-loved officer amongst students.

'Hello! I'm Chris and I'm the Societies and Services officer for this year. My role is split between supporting societies and overseeing the running of our Union services. If you have any issues or ideas about these things, just get in touch!'

 

Chris’ ‘to-do’ list (manifesto):

  • Reduce the cost of travelling between campuses
  • Open an additional shop on Bay Campus
  • Increase the size of 52°
  • Introduce a £3 meal deal in Costcutter
  • Run a student competition to open a new service
  • Widen the range of Travel Shop trips
  • Specialised society rooms
  • Ensure academic societies get support from their colleges
  • Instate a “New Society Package”
  • Lobby the University for £10,000 for societies’ competitions
  • Set up a green grant for societies
  • Run Union services sustainably and using as little plastic as possible
  • Keep more services open over the summer period

Makes sure that all Union services are student friendly

Works with society exec members to ensure fair representation
