I have been the Discovery trustee secretary since 2021. I have loved my time in the role, but I have stepped down this year to allow someone else to take on the fabulous role that has taught me so much and transferable skills that have led to full-time employment.

I have a passion for Discovery as a charity; I think they are a beacon of light in the topics of inclusivity and is a leading light as to how things should be done in this sector; they are a perfect role model for any other charities that are hoping to become more inclusive, to do this – be a bit more Discovery ??. I have been a PC on the digital media project and Pen Pals; I have taken part in various projects and believe in Discovery as a charity and the values they uphold. I am very passionate about mixing volunteering with studying whilst at university and the benefits this brings for the students and the communities in which the volunteering is taking place. Discovery's difference to vulnerable communities in Swansea is so impactful, and I will do everything I can to ensure that these fantastic projects continue. The longevity of Discovery is my main aim as a trustee, to ensure that future students and the community can continue to benefit from our impact on the community, and we wouldn't want that to end! I feel like it is the right time to step down from the secretary role to allow another person to be able to benefit from the growth that comes with the role and the understanding of the charity sector; however, I am not ready to let go just yet so please do consider allowing me to stay on as a usual trustee without a direct role other than subgroups.

I think the world of the charity and its fantastic staff team, and I will always do my utmost to ensure the well-being of our staff members and that the governance and decisions made align with the more significant sector in which we operate. As a student trustee, I hope to bring insight and new ideas for projects or collaborations within the community. I have recently been involved with submitting an abstract for the SALT conference to highlight the benefits of student volunteering with a staff trustee; we are very keen to push a service-learning module at the university that encompasses projects at Discovery whilst allowing for further employability and internship opportunity; as we truly believe the benefits that come with student volunteering. Please keep me as a trustee for a bit longer so that I can continue striving to develop Discovery even further. My heart belongs here, and I would be so sad to say goodbye. I have another 1-2 years left of PhD and would love to stay committed to the role during these last two years of my studies, with the hope that then, in the future, I may be able to become
