Join Politics and IR and History to the Hungarian Capital of Budapest! Blessed with stunning art-nouveau architecture, vibrant bars and a vibrant history and culture, we have arranged a packed trip for you to fully immerse yourself in this beautiful city. An area of significant historical and political interest, Budapest has existed in some form since the first century AD, existing under Ottoman and Austrian rule before a short lived independence following the Great War, before it suffered under both fascist and communist regimes throughout the 21st century, only truly grasping independence in 1989 at the fall of the iron curtain. To gain insight into the politics and history of both Budapest and Hungary, this trip will include:

  • A visit to the Hungarian Parliament and its unique exhibitions documenting the nations parliament and millennium-old constitutional system 
  • A 24h Budapest Card that offers:
    • Optional walking tour
    • Access to museums and galleries across the city
    • Unlimited Public Transport
    • Access to the cities thermal hot springs and baths
    • A visit to Buda Castle
  • A visit to the house of terror, a museum exhibiting the atrocities of communist and fascist regimes 
  • A sightseeing trip along the Danube
  • A night out in Budapest!

In addition to both accommodation and flights!

Deposit holders will be added to a groupchat and communicated with throughout the lead-up to, and duration, of the trip.

Terms

In paying a deposit you accept and agree to the following:

  • To arrange your own travel to and from London Stansted Airport at least three hours before departure
  • Any fees incurred by oversized luggage will be paid by the attendee
  • Any issues pertaining to lost baggage is the responsibility of the attendee, not the society
  • Attendees must respect the accomodation and property throughout the stay
  • There may be some mixed-sex accommodation, and if you are uncomfortable with this it will be raised to the organisers so appropriate measures can be taken
  • Any legal or medical issues encountered by the individual in Hungary are the responsibility of the individual to resolve
  • To arrange your own Travel Insurance and provide the information to the trip organiser
  • Your passport is valid and expires later than the 15th December 2024
  • This payment is non-refundable under any circumstance;
    • You must find a replacement if you are unable to go to have a deposit refunded
    • Exception may be made if there is a flight cancellation but not guaranteed. 
    • This payment commits you to the trip
  • Students are expected to adhere to the university’s code of conduct and remain respectful of fellow students at all times. The organisers of this trip furthermore are not liable for personal issues or requirements. Students must accept that in attending this trip they are responsible for themselves and to respect the limited capacity of their fellow student organisers.
  • To pay the small fare between Budapest Airport and Budapest City Centre

Furthermore, the societies and trip organisers will not be liable if an attendee misses either flight and a refund will not be awarded. This also applies to if an attendee’s passport is invalid and they are prevented from travelling and for any lost baggage. 

The aforementioned societies are offering a unique travel experience but that committee members are not in the capacity to act as personal guardians.
