The Students’ Union have welcomed a brand new Week of Work initiative.
Students are being offered the chance to spend a week taking part in work experience. Between 21st-27th January, students will have the opportunity to take part in work experience through companies invited by the Swansea University Employability Academy.
Education Officer, Zahid Raja, who has been involved with designing the initiative will speak at the launch event on the 16th October. Raja said:
“This is a fantastic opportunity for students and local businesses alike. Students will gain a fantastic new experience and exposure to a field of work that the University has sourced. The experience will be reflective and the University has assured us that whilst students won’t be paid for this, travel and lunch expenses shall be reimbursed.”
Leading employers in South Wales are offering one week of work experience looking at different aspects of their business. You can identify an area of work where you would like to undertake a longer placement. Employers may negotiate a further placement with you. This week will count for one of the experiences towards the Swansea Employability Award.
Pro Vice Chancellor Hilary Lappin-Scott who is leading the Swansea Employability Academy said:
“WOW is one of a series of exciting and effective programmes developed by Swansea University to improve the employment and entrepreneurial skills of our undergraduates enabling them to compete for jobs nationally and internationally.
"Employers are enthusiastically supporting our students and are impressed by the motivation and commitment they show during these events. Every student is ultimately responsible for their own development but I strongly encourage everyone to take advantage of the WOW experience and our other Swansea programmes”
