Eddie & The Wolves – they're ones to watch out for in the rock and blues scene, a hurricane force to be reckoned with and their first single, Not the Fix, is nothing short of an introduction to what’s to come from them in the future.

The pack are Derby-based and were founded in 2018 and are led by Eddie Saffel and his wife Char. For anyone who likes Royal Blood, Fleetwood Mac or Led Zeppelin – Eddie & The Wolves are a force to be reckoned with on how they take these sound influences and make them their own. They’re one for your playlist - listening to this track in particular makes you feel like the main character for the day.

What struck me the most about this single is the haunting vocals intertwined with their bluesy, dirty, rock'n'roll style. What this track explores is this inner turmoil of constantly seeking a cure or a way to feel better. Mental health and the concept of battling your internal demons are metaphorized as ‘poison’ is at the heart of the song. This powerful analogy of mental health and its pollution by the band acknowledges the conception that it’s undefeatable and we often feel that it can’t be overcome or cured.

Under Eddie’s thunder of fortitude vocals, Char’s spectral vocals course through the track sort of enacts like the voice at the back of your head that evokes the fear and the angst of letting go of the ‘fix’. And what’s important is the track doesn’t identify what the ‘fix’ is – it grants the opportunity for the listeners to relate to the track in their own way and visualise what their ‘fix’ is. Another thing that resonated with me about this track was that idea of being ‘expired’ and the common notion that mental health is almost like a defeat where you feel like you can’t see the forest for the trees. That idea of being expired and the belief that your best days are over is something that will speak to listeners who suffer with mental health, but what this track does is it becomes this stepping stool that evokes this confidence within the listener to pick themselves back up and reach out for support.

The structure of the track audibly narrates the complex process of finding the ‘fix’ and the temporary relief it gives. The extended build up during the most part at the beginning of the track emblematizes the longing for the ‘fix’ and the relief it provides. The chorus is one of the best choruses I’ve heard in a long time – the symphonic, explosive detonation of Eddie and Char’s vocal dynamic is compelling and empowering on another level. They’ve really caught lightning in a bottle with their first single. The pounding pulsation of the beat and bass evokes and perpetuates this confidence to take that brave, necessary step to healing to reach out and seek support. The band itself are founded on friends and love, and it's that adoration that they have for each other is reciprocated to the audience through this track.

All in all, Eddie & The Wolves are a headline act in the making – they're the undercurrent of talent on the rock and blues scene and are forecasted to overtake the competition. Eddie & The Wolve’s first single, ‘Not the Fix’, is out now – they’re ones to look out for.
