The biggest sporting day in the student calendar is confirmed and we can FINALLY announce that The Welsh Varsity is returning on the 26th of April 2023, for it's 25th birthday. This year the GWA Team will be heading to Cardiff to compete in more than 30 sports accross varuious loactions, including the ultimate rugby show down at Cardiff Arms Park, showcasing both the Women’s and Men’s rugby.

After an amazing start to the sporting year and our previous victory last year in the Men's Rugby at Swansea.com Stadium, the Green and White Army are waiting and ready to go head-to-head with Team Cardiff. Having not competed in Cardiff for 4 years due to Covid-19 restrictions, Swansea is ready to take the City of Cardiff by storm and claim the Varsity Shield. That being said, we cannot wait to see what Cardiff bring to the table with their fresh new look.

Cardiff Sports and Athletic Union President, Olivia Evans said It is so exciting to have Varsity back in Cardiff after 4 years away and I have no doubt that our Team Cardiff will be on top form for this monumental home fixture. This year we will be giving the Cardiff leg of the fixture a fresh look and feel with some exciting new developments planned for the day, we can’t wait to announce those in the coming weeks.” To read more Varsity news from Cardiff Students’ Union click here.

Swansea Sports Officer Jonny Davies, responded with “I’m so excited be a part of this years Varsity. The Green and White Army are looking as incredible as ever and I cannot wait to see our students battle in the diff' this year. In the last year, sport at Swansea has progressed so much and I’m proud to represent the fantastic student body as their sports officer, in what I know will be a fantastic day of Welsh sport. Win or lose, there’s going to be a HUGE party in the Swans on the night of the 26th of April. Uppa swans, up the GWA and let's go Swansea."

Varsity has grown exponentially year on year since the first even back in 1997, alternating hosts between Swansea and Cardiff each year. With more than 10,000 student spectators enjoying the full list of sporting events on offer, and the return of Cardiffs' incredible locations, we really think this will be one of the BEST Varsity's to date.

More ticket information will be provided soon, but in the meantime make sure to mark the date 'Wednesday 26th April' in your calendars, because this is certainly an event NOT to be missed.
