Sports Officer

Megan Chagger

Megan oversees the day-to-day functioning of all 56 sports clubs at Swansea University. She recently completed her undergraduate degree in Sport & Exercise Science and has been involved with the Swansea Sirens Cheerleading club since starting back in 2020, even making her way to a captain position last academic year. Meg is a key point of contact between the Student Union and Sport Swansea, helping us collaboratively work on huge sporting projects like The Welsh Varsity.

Megs favourite sport is Cheerleading (duh!) but if she could do any other sport, she would choose athletics, specifically the 100m sprints. On the weekends you can find Meg at the pub with her mates or having a boogie in town.

From Your Officer

Megan Chagger

Hey guys! I’m Meg Chagger, Surrey gal born and bred. I studied Sport and Exercise Science for the last 3 years, whilst being on the cheerleading team #swanseasirens.

I was Coach and then Captain of the Sirens over the last year, being awarded club of the year at the Sport Swansea Awards! Uni sports has made my time at Swansea, I don’t know what I would’ve done without it. Which is why I want to ensure every student has the same opportunities I did, and give back to the sports community at Swansea uni.

What I'm Working On

Social Media

Early Stages

Objectives

  • Highlight achievements through sport Swansea, introduce regular sport articles written from each club about achievements and updates to be posted on a newsletter to be sent to all university students.

  • Ensure that there is more promotion of current students, alumni, and the community, in terms of their sporting achievement to aid the uptake of new athletes each academic year.

  • Aim to get a dedicated staff member to solely promote all sports teams on social media, this will help evidence achievements and promote success, and can be used to gain financial backing in future.

Athlete and Club Development

Early Stages

Objectives

  • Encourage engagement/participation at the development & elite level across all sports.

  • Further support for the current athletes that already participate in sport, pushing funding and admin support to committees for additional equipment or kit assistance.

  • Create a clear pathway of how to become a high-performance sport/athlete and increase High performance athlete status across the university, involving more sports teams & singular athletes.

  • Develop a better form of communication/clear pathway between students/SU/Sport Swansea to understand what the members want.

  • Introduce coaching support for more sports teams, from providing links to local clubs for advice or introducing new coaches to sports clubs.

  • Ensure more support for clubs who don’t compete on Wednesdays with admin duties (e.g. booking buses).
