Vice President Sports

Dafydd Evans

Dafydd recently graduated with a 2:1 in Business Management. Since joining the University, he has been actively involved in the University's Rugby Club, even becoming Club Captain in his third year. Outside of university, Dafydd enjoys visiting the local beaches, socialising, playing darts, and playing rugby for Ystradgynlais RFC.

Dafydd is the key point of contact between students, the Students' Union, and Sport Swansea, working with all three to organise major events such as the Welsh Varsity.

Dafydd joined the Rugby Club during Freshers' Week and hasn't looked back since. Despite suffering a major setback after breaking both bones in his leg, he has made a successful return to the pitch. If you're looking for him, you'll probably find him in the SU office, on a rugby pitch, or down Wind Street.

From Your Officer

Dafydd Evans

Hi there! I'm Dafydd, the new Sports Officer at Swansea Students' Union.

Throughout my time at university, I've been heavily involved in sport through the Rugby Club and by attending fantastic events such as Swansea 7s. I've also been known to be pretty handy at darts—except on Flight Night!

Being part of sports clubs at Swansea gave me an incredible opportunity to make lifelong friends and develop valuable skills. Being elected Club Captain of SURFC is my proudest achievement to date. I want everyone to have the opportunity to get involved in sport because I believe it has played, and continues to play, a pivotal role in creating a positive student experience at Swansea University.

I've also served on the Sports Executive Committee, where I had the opportunity to support the previous Sports Officer, Robbie, in organising events and ensuring club memberships were in place.

I'm really excited to get started, and I can't wait to meet you all. I'll see you on Wednesday night!

Roles and Responsibilities

Roles & Responsibilities

I advocate for sports enthusiasts, representing student concerns to the university. Collaborating with peers and staff, I invigorate campus life through events, campaigns, and projects. As a liaison between students and the university, I influence policies to elevate team sports and well-being. My leadership ensures robust athletic involvement, fostering a spirited, cohesive, and health-conscious campus community.

What I'm Working On

Increase the accessibility and inclusivity of Sport

I want to make sport at Swansea more accessible and inclusive.

Early Stages

Main Objective:

Having broken my leg in December 2024 I realised it’s difficult to join a Sports Club half way through the year. I realise Sports play a key role in many peoples University experience and has numerous positive mental health benefits, therefore making Sports more accessible should increase overall student welfare.

The more taster sessions should increase club memberships increasing clubs finances whilst also increasing the number of people involved in Sports.

Planned actions:

I intend to reintroduce refreshers fair giving student the opportunity to join in a sport halfway through the year. I would also like to create more frequent taster sessions creating a welcoming environment for beginners or people who are just curious in joining.

I would highlight these taster sessions through joining in and posting them on social media.

Promote Intramural Sport

I want to increase the participation on Intramural Sport

Early Stages

Main Objective:

I would like to increase the attendance of Intramural sport as I believe it’s a fun way to get active and socialise. Intramural sport provides a platform for students to get active and socialise without the commitment of training. This is something really important to students on courses which have heavy workloads or who are busy outside of University work.

Planned actions:

I intend to launch a social media campaign on Instagram highlighting the various intramural sports Swansea offer. I will explain how Intramural Sports provide a competitive yet social platform for students without the training.

These videos will be short and to the point hopefully with a light-hearted tone. I’ll take part in a session to highlight the enjoyment these sports can provide.
