As Societies are student run and student based they represent all areas of interest from our diverse student body. For example, our societies range from politically and environmentally active groups to those concerned with cultural and artistic development or educational and religious support. These are further complimented by an array of societies that develop student’s hobbies.
The Student Union believes that Societies play a vital role in University life as they broaden the personal development of each and every student. The activities that our societies provide allow over 3000 of our students to gain skills and experience in areas that would otherwise not be available to them. The Student Union feels that the service that Societies provide enriches the educational experience that students have at University and equip them better for the world of employment. Not only does the great variety of societies provide our students with a numerous activities to get involved in, but it also allows students to get involved with the running of such an organisation. Every society has an elected Committee, which operates the day to day running of that group. This allows students the chance to gain skills in teamwork, management, finances and marketing.
Good luck for the coming year. We hope that you will find it both enjoyable and rewarding. Don’t forget the Society Awards held at the end of the year!
Best wishes,
The Societies Team
