Club Description
Having won Sport Swansea's Most Improved Club of the Year in 2013, our goal is to continue excelling, always ensuring that we provide our players with the best experiences. Since Volleyball is an international sport, we have a wonderfully diverse club, counting on over 20 nationalities, across over 100 members! Our people are lovely, friendly and engaged, and they will surely make you feel welcomed and included from day one.
For the cost of £30 you can become a standard member of the club for the whole academic year! What does this allow you to do? -
- Access to buy team memberships - Intramural, Development, BUCS (explained below).
- Attend our weekly themed socials on Wednesdays! (Planned by your Social Secretaries - Ffion and Tyler!)
- Attend games and support your BUCS teams.
(These memberships are all available on this SU page)
Regardless of your level of experience, we are confident SUVC is the place for you — all we expect is that you share our enthusiasm and interest in this wonderful sport!
There are three ways of you joining the club (scroll down for more information):
Intramural Team (All Genders)
New to volleyball? This is the perfect place to start!
Our intramural league is the perfect place for beginners to get started. We run two hour sessions every week for our intramural members and intend on them being structured as:
- 1-hour Training (with Cygnets/Intramural Officers, Rewash Ale, and Luca Hoyle)
- 1-hour Intramural league. A league where every week you play two other teams in 25 minute matches to make your way up the table over the course of the year!
Whether you’ve never played before or have limited experience, this is a fun, friendly, and supportive environment to learn the game, meet new people, and develop your skills.
The sessions are coached and led by our Intramural Officers, who helps guide players through the basics and builds confidence through regular games and light training.
While the league is open to all, players in the intramural competition cannot compete in BUCS teams during the same season, but can compete in development teams if selected to move up. However, it’s a fantastic pathway; many of our BUCS players began here before moving into more competitive play.
What do you get if you become a member? -
- 2 hours a week to play volleyball.
- Involvement in the Intramural league to meet new people and hone your skills.
- Access to several themed tournaments through the year - Christmas, Halloween, Valentines etc.
- The exclusive ability to be spotted by Development officers or BUCS Teams captains.
- Being involved in our incredible, growing community of passionate players.
How do I join? -
The membership to join our Intramural League is only £15! It is accessible to anyone that wishes to join through this SU website!
(You must have the standard volleyball club membership in order to purchase the intramural membership)
Development Squad (All Genders)
Looking to level up? Attend trials for our Development Squad.
The Development Squad is designed for players with some volleyball experience who are working toward earning a place on our competitive BUCS teams. It’s perfect for those who aren’t quite BUCS-ready yet but are serious about developing their skills in a more focused environment.
These members would be specifically picked by our Development Officers - Tom Berwick and Isaac Thompson - in the October trials, and intramural sessions across the year.
Now in its third official year, and the squad is gaining more and more opportunities as time goes on. The Training sessions are 2 hours weekly, offering structured, intermediate-level training with an emphasis on technical improvement, game understanding, and team play.
For current intramural players, this is the next step.

Training takes place twice a week in two hour sessions, teams also compete in BUCS league matches most Wednesdays throughout the academic year. We also take part in the prestigious Welsh Varsity against Cardiff each spring — one of the biggest student sporting events in Wales. This is a selected squad from our 1sts and 2nds teams, the best of the best!
