Swansea University Motorsport Club – President’s Address 2026
Welcome to Swansea University Motorsport Club. Whether you’re a seasoned “racing driver”, completely new to karting, an F1 fan, or simply someone with an interest in motorsport, we’re the club for you! With competitive racing, casual karting and weekly socials throughout the year there’s something for everyone.
This year our Intramural Karting Championship returns at Kart Kingdom, our indoor karting partner. We’ll once again begin with the Fresher’s Shield in October, a great way to either get started with karting or dust off your old gear and return to a racing rhythm. The shield runs of a Thursday evening and is an opportunity for one talented first year to be crowned “Fastest Fresher”! You can take part in as much or as little of the intramural championship as you like throughout the year, but get one race in and you’ll surely be coming back for more…
Fiending for something more competitive? Try out for the British Universities Karting Championship. You’ll be racing at speeds north of 55mph at some of the most iconic outdoor karting tracks in the UK, the stomping grounds where current F1 drivers honed their skills, in some of the country’s most powerful arrive-and-drive karts. Think you’ve got what it takes to help us take on over 50 other universities at one of the most watched university sports? Join us at a test day in October to get your race licence!
Motorsport isn’t just about what happens on track though…
Our weekly socials will be continuing throughout this year, with every social bringing something different. From themed dress-up nights to activities designed to get the whole club involved, there’ll be plenty of opportunities to meet other like-minded members and make life-long friendships.
Fancy a bit of sim-racing? We will also be making trips to SimRace1, an in-person LAN sim-racing venue where we’ll be running endurance events. Don’t want to go outside? No problem, not all racing has to happen on a real track. Our online sim-racing community will be continuing throughout the year, with our Discord server acting as the home for everything from organised races, casual Assetto Corsa lobbies, and of course, even a chill bit of Minecraft.
Most importantly, you don’t need to be a “racing driver” to be a part of SUMC. Whether you want to compete in the BUKC, take part in our Intramural Championship, come along to socials, or just meet people who share your interest in motorsport, we want the club to be somewhere everyone can be involved.
