GEORGIE ANNETT
Hi! My name is Georgie Annett and I’m running for the post of 2021-2022 Swansea Student Union President.
For the past few years Swansea has been my home and as a third culture individual I am strongly aware of the importance of the student community which has provided me security and strength throughout my time here.
I am an upbeat, positive and honest candidate. I love to listen with the intent to problem solve. In addition to my tenacity, I’ve had plenty of relevant experience ranging from being a mind charity campaigner to assisting multiple fundraisers both inside and outside of university life. I also used the COVID overcast summer term, to help and set up new organisational structures in a small agency company. I have had business and financial experience in a company dealing with COVID implications, which will be useful to help the university succeed through this pandemic.
Swansea has given me so much, in return I want to enable every student to get the most out of their Swansea student experience, and I believe my skillset presents me as a very strong individual for the position.
I therefore pledge to-
IMPROVE WELL-BEING AND SAFTEY OF UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
Contact Swansea County Council and lobby for the improved safety of Singleton Park.
In the UK 1 in 7 females have become a victim of sexual assault
It is imperative to ensure a safer environment to alleviate student stress
By creating an online or face to face space where students can flag up any suspicious activity in or around campus, we can combat student concerns
Educate students and faculty on race and issues regarding racism
Where possible further decolonise the curriculum by broadening the syllabus away from a Eurocentric worldview
Provide education opportunities and create groups for students to learn how to be active in the BLM movement
Increase the accessibility of the welfare services to students
This is a really positive service the university offers. To make it even better we should strive to offer emergency/same day appointments to combat the mental health of students
Be able to book repeat appointments at regular intervals without extensive waits
UPGRADE YOUR STUDENT EXPERIENCE
Bring back the Dockyard (COVID laws permitting)
Implement a social space such as Singleton campus’s JC’s on the refurbished HSV to encourage students to broaden their social bubble among campuses (COVID laws permitting)
Improve links with outside companies, in turn improving employability for graduates.
With more than half of UK firms currently planning to hire new staff post-pandemic (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-56149661)
By creating links with these businesses, we can help students achieve a graduate job and get them started in the job market

Helo! Fy enw i yw Georgie Annett ac rwy’n ymgeisio am swydd 2021-2022 Llywydd Undeb Myfyrwyr Abertawe.
Dros y blynyddoedd diwethaf mae Abertawe wedi bod yn gartref I mi ac fel unigolyn trydydd diwylliant rwy'n ymwybodol iawn o bwysigrwydd y gymuned o fyfyrwyr sydd wedi darparu diogelwch a chryfder i mi trwy gydol fy amser yma.
Rwy'n ymgeisydd brwd, cadarnhaol a gonest. Rydw i wrth fy modd yn gwrando gyda'r bwriad i ddatrys problemau. Yn ogystal â fy nycnwch, mae gen i ddigon o brofiad perthnasol yn amrywio o fod yn ymgyrchydd elusennol i Mind, i gynorthwyo sawl prosiect codi arian o fewn y Brifysgol a thu hwnt. Hefyd, defnyddiais i dymor haf cymylog COVID i helpu a sefydlu strwythurau sefydliadol newydd mewn cwmni asiantaeth fach. Mae gen i brofiad busnes ac ariannol mewn cwmni sy'n delio â goblygiadau COVID, a fydd yn ddefnyddiol i helpu'r Brifysgol i lwyddo trwy'r pandemig hwn.
Mae Abertawe wedi rhoi cymaint i mi, ac rydw i am alluogi pob myfyriwr i gael y gorau o’u profiad myfyriwr yn Abertawe, a chredaf fod fy sgiliau yn golygu fy mod i'n unigolyn cryf iawn ar gyfer y swydd.
