Students Union Welfare Officer Manifesto 

Hello there! I am Megan Naggie, a 2nd year Geography BSc student passionate about the wellbeing of every student. I am a Subject Rep as well as an Undergraduate College of Science Rep demonstrating my value for student voice and listening skills by resolving student issues through feedback. This has given me an insight into the services for wellbeing and my personal interaction with students has made me aware of the benefits and improvements needed regarding welfare. I am also a committee member for the Christian Union where I have used my teamwork and problem-solving skills to overcome every challenge COVID has thrown at us. I run a personal student experience Instagram account @meg_of_arc which you are welcome to check out or contact me on. I will give 110% in everything I am involved in, as I have shown in these roles! 

If appointed as Welfare Officer, I would address the following: 

Student Well-being: 

• Implement Student Union introductions and explanation to Freshers on how it operates, who the SU officers are and what is available to students. Many excellent welfare services are available, and I would like to ensure that all students can navigate the system easily and can get support when needed without hurdles. 

• Create a forum where students can openly and easily give feedback or make complaints regarding societies/sports clubs without feeling threatened, with effective investigation and resolution. 

• Create an accessible forum for students to report suspicious and potentially dangerous activity to ensure student safety on and off campus, linked to the local police and/or campus security when necessary. 

Mental Health Support: 

• Improve the navigation and accessibility of Welfare Services, providing clear explanations for each service and clearer routes to the specific support systems that students need. 

• Arrange more talks on various mental health topics to benefit the student body across the year. 

Housing & Transport: 

• Create secure a forum for reviews and ratings of Student Housing so that there is a clearer understanding of potential issues before moving in and preventing students from experiencing housing issues. 

• Introduce workshops involving the University Accommodation Office and reliable sources to enable students to plan and make informed decisions on housing options in their 2nd year ensuring students never feel pressured or misled when entering into agreements. 

• Work to improve bus tracking services, reduce scheduling issues, ensuring the safety of students to enable students to effectively plan ahead when accessing on-campus teaching. 

• Encourage students to use more green forms of transport. Instigate a maintenance programme so that the Santander bikes and pumps on campus are checked regularly for safety. 

Campaigning: 

• Encourage more involvement of students through all societies and sports clubs in campaigns and introduce further campaigns with students input. 

• Work alongside the Education Officer to further develop Study Aid adapting resources so they are more effective under Covid-19. 

• Encourage student volunteering, with Discovery and societies such as Help for the Homeless, to benefit the student body and wider community.

Helo! Megan Naggie ydw i, rwy’n fyfyriwr BSc Daearyddiaeth yn fy 2il flwyddyn ac rwy’n frwdfrydig iawn am les pob myfyriwr. Rwy'n Gynrychiolydd Pwnc yn ogystal â Chynrychiolydd Coleg Gwyddoniaeth Israddedig sy'n dangos fy ngwerthfawrogiad o lais myfyrwyr a fy sgiliau gwrando trwy ddatrys materion myfyrwyr trwy adborth. Mae hyn wedi rhoi mewnwelediad i mi o'r gwasanaethau lles ac mae fy rhyngweithio personol â myfyrwyr wedi fy ngwneud yn ymwybodol o'r buddion a'r gwelliannau sydd eu hangen o ran lles. Rydw i hefyd yn aelod o bwyllgor yr Undeb Cristnogol lle rydw i wedi defnyddio fy sgiliau gwaith tîm a sgiliau datrys problemau i oresgyn pob her y mae COVID wedi'i thaflu atom. Pe bawn i'n cael fy mhenodi'n Swyddog Lles, byddwn yn mynd i'r afael â'r canlynol: 

Lles Myfyrwyr: 

• Gweithredu cyflwyniadau ac esboniad Undeb y Myfyrwyr i Fyfyrwyr y Glas ar sut mae'n gweithredu, pwy yw swyddogion UM a beth sydd ar gael i fyfyrwyr. Mae llawer o wasanaethau lles rhagorol ar gael, a hoffwn sicrhau bod pob myfyriwr yn gallu llywio'r system yn hawdd ac yn gallu cael cefnogaeth pan fo angen heb rwystrau. 

• Creu fforwm lle gall myfyrwyr roi adborth neu gwyno yn agored ac yn hawdd ynghylch cymdeithasau/clybiau chwaraeon heb deimlo dan fygythiad, gydag ymchwiliadau a datrysiadau effeithiol. 

• Creu fforwm hygyrch i fyfyrwyr adrodd gweithgaredd amheus a allai fod yn beryglus i sicrhau diogelwch myfyrwyr ar ac oddi ar y campws, wedi'i gysylltu â'r heddlu lleol a/neu dîm diogelwch y campws pan fo angen.  

Cymorth Iechyd Meddwl: 

• Gwella llywio a hygyrchedd Gwasanaethau Lles, gan ddarparu esboniadau clir ar gyfer pob gwasanaeth a llwybrau cliriach i'r systemau cymorth penodol sydd eu hangen ar fyfyrwyr. 

• Trefnu mwy o sgyrsiau ar amryw bynciau iechyd meddwl er budd y myfyrwyr trwy gydol y flwyddyn. 

Tai a Thrafnidiaeth: 

• Creu fforwm diogel ar gyfer adolygu tai myfyrwyr fel bod dealltwriaeth gliriach o faterion posibl cyn symud i mewn ac atal myfyrwyr rhag dioddef o broblemau tai. 

• Cyflwyno gweithdai gyda Swyddfa Llety'r Brifysgol a ffynonellau dibynadwy i alluogi myfyrwyr i gynllunio a gwneud penderfyniadau gwybodus ar opsiynau tai yn eu hail flwyddyn gan sicrhau nad yw myfyrwyr byth yn teimlo dan bwysau nac yn cael eu camarwain wrth lunio cytundebau. 

• Gweithio i wella gwasanaethau tracio bysiau, lleihau materion amserlennu, gan sicrhau diogelwch myfyrwyr i alluogi myfyrwyr i gynllunio ymlaen llaw yn effeithiol wrth gyrchu addysg ar y campws. 

• Annog myfyrwyr i ddefnyddio mathau mwy gwyrdd o gludiant. Cychwyn rhaglen gynnal a chadw fel bod beiciau a phympiau Santander ar y campws yn cael eu gwirio'n rheolaidd i sicrhau eu bod nhw’n ddiogelwch.  

Ymgyrchu: 

• Annog mwy o gyfranogiad gan fyfyrwyr trwy'r holl gymdeithasau a chlybiau chwaraeon mewn ymgyrchoedd a chyflwyno ymgyrchoedd pellach gyda mewnbwn myfyrwyr. 

• Cydweithio â'r Swyddog Addysg i ddatblygu StudyAid ymhellach gan addasu adnoddau fel eu bod yn fwy effeithiol yn ystod cyfnod Covid-19. 

• Annog myfyrwyr i wirfoddoli, gyda Discovery a chymdeithasau fel Help for the Homeless, er budd myfyrwyr a'r gymuned ehangach.
