I have been a part of Discovery for nearing 4 years now, and in my time I have had a chance to experience many roles including being a volunteer, project coordinator for three different projects and a trustee. In my year as trustee I have had the chance to be chair of the fundraising subgroup, leading fundraising drives and raising over £400 across the year across multiple events, including face painting at the Summer Ball, Quizzes, Bake Sales and as Charity of the Month at Hoogah. I was a finalist of the WCVA Welsh Young Volunteer of the Year Award 2023, which was a huge honor and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate all the wonderful work Discovery does and has allowed me to do.
I am currently Student Vice President of the trustee board, having experience of leading board meetings and an AGM and believe that President is the next step to further develop my skills and experience further. I have experience representing Discovery at events and focus groups, including discussing being a Young Trustee with the Charity Commissioner, and talking about Youth Mobility post Brexit with the European Economic and Social Committee in Cardiff. In my year as trustee I have learnt about areas I previously had no knowledge in, including finance and policy. Although I do know most aspects of Discovery I am always open to learning more and challenging myself in new ways.
I would bring a lot of experience to the role of President, understanding the many levels and roles within Discovery from personal experience, as well as being open to new ideas and innovation. I am highly organized, have effective communication skills and am truly passionate about all the amazing work Discovery does as a charity. The chance to represent both Discovery and the volunteers would be a privilege and would be a responsibility I would be truly honored to have.
If I do not become President after this vote, I would still love the chance to be a non-specific trustee as I truly love my role and am passionate about carrying on throughout the next year. I have had a wonderful time fundraising and would welcome the chance to increase our goals and raise more with new and exciting ideas.
I love Discovery, I love the chaos, the work everyone does, the atmosphere and most importantly the people. It is a group of truly incredible humans and I have really valued all my time here, and being able to be a trustee has given me a chance to contribute in ways that I would never have dreamed of.
