Residential Volunteer
The role of Residential Volunteer, within the Resident’s Network, is hugely enjoyable and requires
certain skills that are not common to everyone. Working as Residential Volunteer means you can
gain some great CV experience, receive unique perks and meet new people. If you are selected as a
Residential Volunteer, it is a great stepping stone into working for the Student Union; this year’s RV’s
can apply to be paid Residential Officers next year and progress through the ranks.
As a Residential Volunteer, you will be working for and representing Residential Services and
the Student’s Union, as part of the Resident’s Network. You will be at the forefront of University
residences and will act as a voice for up to 1000 students, gaining invaluable experience. You will
report to the Residential Officer for your area and will work alongside them and one other RV to
promote events, run campaigns and communicate with the students living in your residential area.
We are employing 12 energetic students who are outgoing, friendly, reliable and have a passion to
ensure all students get the most out of their accommodation whilst at Swansea University. Each
Residential Volunteer will represent a residential area and will have varying and changeable duties.
Role Responsibilities
Residential Volunteers (RV’s), are the first point of contact between resident students, Residential
Services and the Students’ Union. You will develop an in-depth knowledge of your residential area,
SU events and the University as a whole. You will be required to approach student residents to
promote SU and Resident Network events, provide information about Residential Services, and
answer any student queries.
.
It is imperative that you are confident whilst talking to all students and have excellent
communication skills. You will need in-depth knowledge and will draw upon your own experiences in
order to build a rapport with student residents.
You will report to members of the Student’s Union, along with the Residence Life Coordinator
(Residential Services). You will be required to attend regular meetings with these members of staff
and will be encouraged to give your ideas and opinions on how to improve the experience of living in
University residences.
Working hours will vary and will be allocated to you by a rota. You may be required to work during
Students’ Union events and may be called upon by your residents or volunteers at unsociable hours.
Punctuality is vital – if you are required to start at work at 10pm you should arrive prior to that time
ready to start. Arriving late with no cover being arranged is not excusable.
