The Dance Society has been selected as a finalist in this year’s NUS Awards.
The Students’ Union Club or Society of the Year category recognises a society's commitment to improving participation and student experience and recognises the benefit they will have had in the wider community.
Members of the society have also been active in their fundraising this year, with local charities such as Maggie’s South West Wales, a cancer care centre located by Singleton Hospital benefitting from their efforts.
The society have been praised for their focus on representation amongst their members, liasing with dance instructors over appropriate class venues and hosting opinion polls for members to voice their thoughts on events and socials. They have also been consistent in their delivery of regular and numerous classes all year, with over 35 hours of dance classes every week.
The NUS Awards highlight the achievements of students' unions, students’ union staff and officers as well as individual students from across the UK.
Rosie Hunnam, Societies and Student Development Coordinator said “The Dance Committee and members have all worked incredibly hard this year to maintain the level of professionalism of the Dance Society.
“They have also worked tirelessly to provide opportunities for their members to develop and socialise. We are absolutely thrilled that their work and member dedication has been recognised by NUS. “
The awards will be taking place on the 4th July acting as the finale for Students’ Union 2012 conference.
