Government guidance

We are aware that this isn’t an easy time for anyone, and we are here to support you throughout.

The Government is urging everyone to stay at home to reduce the risk of spreading the Coronavirus. Please follow this guidance and do your bit in helping to save lives. You can read the latest guidance in detail from the Government here.

Reception areas

Our reception areas on both Singleton and Bay Campuses are closed. We are still here for you remotely and if you need us, you can still contact us by email on info@swansea-union.co.uk and a member of the Union team will get back to you.

Advice and Support

Our Advisors are working remotely to continue to be here for you at all costs. Our advisors can be contacted online by emailing advice@swansea-union.co.uk.

We know that the uncertainty of Coronavirus can be really difficult and social distancing and studying remotely can seem daunting. If you are struggling, please get in touch.

Mind, the mental health charity have also put together a few tips you could try to help your wellbeing here.

You can also get in touch with our advisors about any other personal or legal matters, including housing, money and academic issues.

Update to services

Following government advice, we closed our licenced trade venues on both campuses – Rebound, Tafarn Tawe and JCs and our retail shops Root, Root Zero and Fulton Outfitters until further notice.

Our Costcutter store, as an essential supermarket remains open to support those of you who are still living on campus and the local community. The wonderful Costcutter staff have been busy serving customers and donating essentials from the shop to both Morriston and Singleton Hospital to help our NHS during this time.

Opening times:

Saturday and Sundays: 9am-6pm

Monday-Friday: 8am-7pm

The health and wellbeing of our staff and customers is our priority and we are following a high set of regulations regarding cleanliness and personal hygiene.

  • Hand sanitisers to use as you enter the store
  • 2m distancing in place at the checkout
  • Rubber gloves have been provided for all of our staff members
  • Card only at checkout

Student Staff

We hire a number of students who work across our services, and we know that a number of you may now be worried as to how the temporary closure of some of our services affect you. We are currently working on the possibility of placing qualifying student staff onto the Government's Furlough Leave Scheme. As soon as we have a further update on this we will update you. Please be assured that we are doing all we can to find a favourable resolution for you.

Advice to Societies and Sports Clubs

Sport clubs and societies must cancel any travel plans for the foreseeable future. If you have planned a trip, please contact your travel provider, and refer to your travel insurance policy to determine reimbursement of costs.

All society and sporting activities are discontinued until further notice. This includes meetings, rehearsals, training sessions and socials.

Events

The Welsh Varsity event, due to take place in Swansea in April has been cancelled.

All ticket purchases will be refunded automatically, so you don’t need to do anything. Due to the high volume of refunds, it is taking longer than the initial three weeks we anticipated to process. Thank you for your patience so far and you should receive your refund very soon.

We will provide more information about other Union campus events, as and when they are made available.
