The Swansea Green Sox are the baseball and softball team of Swansea University. Formed in 2015 as the Seagulls, the Green Sox are an active and rising member of the university's well-renowned Green and White Army (GWA). We welcome players of all abilities and experience. Seasoned players will have the opportunity to play in matches early on in the season, whilst we also aim to help develop people new to the sport so they can become part of the competitive team as soon as possible. We regularly compete against other universities in the BUCS Western division for baseball and the BUCS Southern division for softball. The season culminates at Nationals, which is the domestic championship, towards the end of the season. In the BUCS season of 24/25 we achieved an impressive 10th out of 25 teams nationally.
Socials are, of course, a huge part of the team's culture, with weekly events to cool off from all our hard work at training. In recent years, these have included: pub crawls, white tee parties, beer pong tournaments, karaoke, ice skating, potlucks, poker nights, bowling, laser tag, and many others. With a good mix of sober and drinking socials, there's inclusivity for all, so everyone on the team can enjoy time with each other how they like.
Our training sessions are run by our Captain biweekly; the sessions are engaging, informative and always entertaining. Sessions focus on developing personal skills and focus players into a few specific positions; we achieve this by running a variety of drills and game situations. We also aim to run friendly games against other universities to help both teams develop as well as allowing most of the club to play in games. Training sessions will vary between Softball and Baseball. We focus our competitive side on Baseball which we have achieved lots of success with.
