Welcome to the Swansea University Netball Club

Want to join a high performance club who love playing netball and socialising…you’ve found the right page. Here you will find all the information needed to join and become a member of SUNC.

Club Information:

Swansea University Netball Club is one of the largest, most successful and well known clubs in Swansea University. Having won Club of the Year 3 times in the past 7 years (2013/14, 2017/18 and 2019/20), we are on a mission to excel again this upcoming year and make sure the club grows and creates as many opportunities possible for our members. We are a very welcoming club and are happy to have anyone join us no matter what ability of netball as long as you're dedicated to the club.

All of our BUCS teams gained promotion last year in their respective divisions, as well as the 1s securing promotio in the local Swansea league.

We are so proud to also be Western Conference Cup and Plate winners!!

Teams and Training Times:

If you would like to play competitive Netball then we have 3 teams who play in the BUCS league which is the structure that all UK Universities compete in weekly.

Our 1st team will be competing in division 1 of the Western league.

Our 2nd team will be competing in division 3 of the western league.

Our 3rd team will be competing in division 4 of the western league.

We also have 3 teams in the local league, with one now in division 2 (after promotion last year) at Cefn Hengoed in the local Swansea League.

We have a development team for those players who are really pushing for places in our competitive teams. The deveopment squad play matches against our 4ths and 5ths as well as friendlies against other local teams.

Our Intramural group has been created for our members who wish to play netball for the social and fun side. Members will be placed in teams and will then play in these teams throughout the season. This is a way to meet new people, learn how to play netball and keep active.

We also have a social membership for those who just want to be involved in a sports club at uni, whether that is for our wednesday nights on Wind street or our chairty and volunteering efforts.

All of our training times and locations are currently unconfirmed due to government guidance and restrictions as we are unable to say if they will be indoor/outdoor at the moment. For up to date information go to our social media pages or message the club! Below is an idea of what our training would usually look like:

Socials:

We currently do not know what will be happening with our socials but we are hoping we will be able to continue our partnership with Bambu and Popworld. As we are allowed up to 30 people outside, we are planning lots of socials on the beach, such as BBQs and rounders. As government guidance changes, our social plans will change.

Below is the info from last year to give you an idea about the socials:

Moreover, our socials on a Wednesday night are one you do not want to miss out on. They have been more successful than ever with over 30+ people each week attending our social bars. This year we are proudly sponsored by Popworld and Bambu and we are every much looking forward to working with them. Another massive social event that is held by the club is tour. Two years ago over 30 girls went on tour to Croatia, from the feedback given by the girls, it is safe to say tour was triumphant and one of the best club bonding experiences for many of the SUNC members. This year our two Social Secretaries are hoping to increase the number of non-alcoholic socials, increase joint socials with other clubs and of course go on tour again.

Charity:

Charity events allow us to come together and be grateful for all that we have. They allow us as a club to give back to the community and appreciate all the work these charities do.

Every year we ask our members to pick what charities they would like to support. In 2018/2019 SUNC raised a worthy £1,525.10 which includes:

£110 - Swansea Uni Ladies Day (all the uni womens teams compete) for Coppafeel

£305 – Great SUNC Sweat Off (Various exercises over different distances) for Shelter Cymru (see article on the uni website about this incredible week!)

£250 – Pub Quiz for LocalAid

£800 - Llanelli Half Marathon for Women's Aid

£60 - Law Netball Match

During lockdown we managed to raise over £500 for NHS Charities Together by running, walking, cycling and rowing over 1000km.

We have already began our fundraising efforts for the 2020/21 year in August by riaisng £400 for Swansea Mind and the Red Cross Beirut Appeal.

We are excited to raise even more throughout the year, despite the challenging circumstances and the charity girls are looking forward to hearing what charities you want us to be fundraising for.
