Aerial Sports is a fun alternative to keep fit by improving your strength, balance and flexibility. We are an inclusive community open to everyone; we will be here to cheer you on and build your confidence.
Aerial Sports incorporates a variety of disciplines such as Pole, Hoop, Silks/Hammock, trapeze and more. As a club, our main focus is Pole, for which we offer weekly classes, competition and performance opportunities. However, the studio we are partnered with also runs hoop and floor-based (eg., handstands) classes. We were officially recognised as a sport by the University in 2014 and participate in Welsh Varsity against C**diff.
Classes
Pole Classes
Our weekly pole classes are open to all abilities! If you've never done pole before, our instructors will teach you a wide variety of moves, starting with the foundations and progressing as you become more familiar with the sport. A typical class will start with a warm-up and some strength and conditioning exercises, then you will learn new moves and recap previously taught moves. Over time, you will learn how to combine these moves to create short sequences and then finish the class with a cool-down. For those who have done pole before, our instructors will assess your ability and continue teaching new moves and progressions appropriate to your ability.
It's highly recommended that you wear shorts and a vest top/crop top/sports bra, as your skin is what helps you grip! However, we want you to be comfortable, so please wear something you can move easily in. You will likely experience some redness and bruising when learning new moves, and maybe ache the next day; this is all normal, and we promise it's worth it!
Off the Pole Classes
We offer Off the Pole classes run by the committee, which are designed to support your pole journey! This weekly class will cover strength and conditioning, flexibility and some dance elements that are specific to Aerial Sports. These classes are a great opportunity to meet other members outside of your usual pole class, have fun, and inspire future pole routines. These are highly recommended for members who are considering competing or performing later in the year.
Class Schedule
Classes will be paid for termly directly to our partnered studio. This semester, the classes will run from 7th Oct to 10th Dec, and will cost £75 for the 10 weeks. You can also attend 1 open practice session on a Monday, Wednesday, or Saturday - this is where you can perfect the skills you've learnt in class!
You must be a member of the club before you can attend a class after the taster sessions.
Our pole classes will run on Wednesday and Thursday afternoons (TBC) -
- Wed 2pm - Brand New Beginners
- Wed 3pm - Improved Beginners
- Wed 4pm - Improvers & Intermediate +
- Thu 5pm - Mixed Beginners
Off the Pole class (TBC)
