We offer something for all members; whether you’re looking to improve your fitness, compete, learn self-defence skills or grade. No prior experience is required!

What We Do:

We TRAIN in the art of Taekwondo 3 times per week.

We COMPETE at National & International level, attending at least 4 competitions a year.

We provide COMMUNITY - make friends for life at training, then kick up some fun on our epic socials!

Originating in Korea, Tae Kwon Do is a modern form of self-defence which has grown in popularity since its inception and is now practised in nearly every country in the world.

Taeaekwondo is most famous for its dynamic kicking, as it makes extensive use of the legs, since the legs are longer and more powerful than the arms.

However, there are many other aspects to the art including blocks, punches and strikes with the hands or arms as well as throws and grappling.

Why you should join us

  • We welcome individuals of all abilities and backgrounds

  • We are a friendly bunch and a small, close-knit community where we all train and improve together

  • Taekwondo provides great all round training to help you improve your fitness, flexibility and strength

  • Taekwondo offers a great opportunity to learn self-defence skills and help you develop confidence and discipline

  • If competing is in your interests, our club provides plenty of opportunities to compete at both BUTL & BUCS events!

  • We organise a variety of socials and extra events throughout the year

  • Represent your university, test your skills, and compete as part of the SUTKD Team.

  • We offer the chance to compete in both National and International competitions.

  • We compete in the BUCS Taekwondo circuit, attending the Autumn, Winter and Spring BSTF (British Student Taekwondo Federation) Tournaments.

  • We are also founding members of the BUTL (British University Taekwondo League) , actively participating in BUTL competitions and events, including the BUTL Nationals & BUTL Worlds.

  • Several of our students are also members of the BUTL Student National Squad, which provides extra opportunities for training and competition.

We’re not just a serious bunch! Come kick up a storm with us at our regular socials and events. Don’t worry if drinking is not your thing, there is never any pressure to drink alcohol at any of our events. We also host sober socials and charity fundraisers throughout the year.

Last year we attended the National Student Taekwondo Awards, hosted by BUTL, where we received many nominations and our members collected some well-earned awards!
