Pool & Snooker
Welcome to the Swansea University Pool & Snooker Society.
We meet and play each week on a Thursday at Rileys Sports Bar in the city centre from 7pm onwards. Our priority is to create a sociable atmosphere in which everyone feels welcome and can play pool and have a good time regardless of their skill level. If this is your first time picking up a cue, don't worry! All of our experienced members are more than happy to teach new players how to play and are keen to get as many new players involved as possible.
This year, we are also introducing Snooker as a society activity for anyone who has an interest in alternative cue sports.
However, if you're looking for a competitive style of play, you're also in the right place. We won last year's Welsh Universities Pool Festival in the singles, doubles, and team events, and 4 of our players were part of the Welsh student's team in the Home Nation's international student pool tournament played in Nottingham last year.
We also have a facebook group which allows our members to arrange times to meet and play outside of the weekly and monthly events to get to know each other. The facebook group can be located at:
We play Blackball rules which is typically found throughout Welsh pool leagues. These rules also tend to result in faster games of pool and discourages the use of deliberate fouls. A detailed PDF of these rules can be foud here:
However, in competitions, World rules are typically played. These are good to learn if you are interested in taking part in any of our UK tounaments. A detailed PDF of these rules can be found here:
For anybody interested in learning how to play Snooker, a detailed PDF of the official rules by the WPBSA can be found here:
If you have any questions please direct them to myself, Lee, president of the pool society, or any of our other committee members. I can be contacted at the following email address:
