About
Overview:
The event will consist of 4 mini freestyle debates. These will be based off a set of political motions, covering a vast area of the world of politics. There will be certificates and prizes for the best contestants. To attend, you do not need to partake in any of the debates, however you are also welcome to partake in as many debates as you wish. Each group will be led by a speaker from debating society, who will begin the motion with an opening speech. The debates will take place in Faraday G, on thursday the 14th March, from 7-9PM. Afterwards, we are likely to head to JCs.
Structure of the Debates:
- For each debate, you can decide what group to be on by choosing whether you are for or against the motion. The debate will begin by someone from Debating sociey giving a brief opening speech, then afterwards, anyone can wish to speak by raising their hand. Each debate will last for 7 minutes, allowing your group to spend 5 minutes preparing before the debate begins, and giving the judges time to decide on the winning team.
- Each motion will be presented on a powerpoint, and there will be an information slide to accompany each motion.
