Fancy an adventure on one of Gower’s most iconic coastal landmarks?
Join us at WEMS for a coastal walk to Worm's head at Rhossili , with the aim of crossing the famous tidal causeway and exploring the headland beyond.
We had a brilliant walk out to Worm’s Head last week, but unfortunately the tides weren’t right for us to make the crossing. Rather than give up, we’re heading back on 27th of September, when the tides are looking perfect for attempting the crossing.
Worm’s Head is a spectacular tidal island at the western tip of the Gower Peninsula. The crossing itself is the highlight of the walk, with rugged limestone, incredible coastal views and the chance to experience one of Gower’s most unique walks.
This is a social event, so whilst enjoying the epic scenery, it’ll be a great opportunity to meet new people, build friendships and find like-minded medics to help you settle into the new academic year.

The walk is suitable for people with a reasonable level of fitness, but sturdy footwear is essential due to the uneven and rocky terrain.
Important: tides and safety
Worm’s Head is a tidal island, meaning the causeway becomes inaccessible as the tide comes in. The National Trust advises that access is possible for approximately 2.5 hours either side of low-tide, and the National Coastwatch volunteers at the lookout provide advice on the crossing window.
Because of this, the crossing is strictly dependent on tides and environmental conditions. We will check conditions before setting out and will not attempt the crossing if it is not considered safe.
Please bring:
- Sturdy walking boots or shoes with good grip
- Waterproof jacket and appropriate outdoor clothing
- Plenty of water
- Food/snacks
- A small backpack
- Sun protection
- Any personal medication you may require
