About
Basic Skills 101 is an introductory, practical teaching session for medical students, covering essential first-aid and basic clinical skills relevant to everyday, clinical and outdoor environments.
The session will combine short demonstrations with supervised hands-on practice, covering basic wounds, bandaging techniques, wound care, adhesive dressings and initial burns management. Students will have the opportunity to practise these techniques in a supportive, informal environment while developing confidence in approaching common minor injuries.
Teaching will also focus on recognising when an intervention is ineffective or inappropriate, understanding the limitations of basic first-aid measures, and knowing when to seek further assessment or escalate care.
The session will be delivered by members of WEMS, with an emphasis on practical skills, clinical reasoning and building confidence in managing common injuries.
