A Freshers' Guide To Summer Ball

A Freshers' Guide To Summer Ball

For most of us, the Abbey Meadow's Summer Ball is the well known annual ritual before heading back home for the Summer. We're quite familiar with the 5,000 person party & the hilarity that comes with it. But some students are about to uncover a whole new side of life at Swansea Uni...

Here's our Freshers' Guide to Summer Ball.

First things first, here's the sales pitch:

5,000 students

6 outrageous arenas

6 outlandish themes

30+ artist INCLUDING: Professor Green, DJ EZ, Lethal Bizzle, Kelli-Leigh

& the world's BIGGEST bouncy castle – we've gone big this year!

But what can you really expect as someone new to Swansea Uni?

Well, your evening starts like all good nights out - by getting ready with your friends and glamming yourself up for the night. What to wear? Most people rock a smart-casual vibe but some of us like to go all-out festival style! It's pretty much up to you but we've put together this Pinterest board if you need some extra style inspiration.

After drinking some prosecco with your mates, it’s time to head to the Abbey Meadow. As you enter the site, it'll be hard to believe that this is actually Swansea Uni. The site is completely fenced (so there's no chance of sneaking in) and has loads of cool different areas and stages. Once you get your wristband checked, it's time to explore!

One of the first things you'll probably want to do is get your drink tokens. The token exchange is cash only so make sure to get cash out before heading down. You'll probably want to keep these safe somewhere – nobody wants to see their drink tokens flying around the world's biggest bouncy castle...

Like most festivals, the headliners come on later on in the night so the first half of your evening is best spent chilling out in the meadow, listening to some local bands/DJs, jumping on the bouncy castle and getting on those fair rides. Don't tire yourself out too much though – you've gotta save your energy for after dark!

As the sun starts to set – things start to change! The atmosphere at the Summer Ball is like no other event at Uni. Everyone's there for a good time, and with all the amazing acts and DJs to watch, it's a real carnival atmosphere. Forget the Biggest Weekend – we at Swansea Union bring amazing artists year after year right on campus.

If you haven't been to a Summer Ball before then there's something you need to know – the Summer Ball is a rite of passage for Swansea students. You only truly become a Swansea student after you've jumped up and down at the Main Stage so many times that you somehow end up 9 foot away from your group.
