*SWANSEA STUDENT ELECTIONS HAVE BEGUN!*
You may have never considered running in an election before, or you may not even know much about the full-time officers in your students’ union, but before you brush over the idea, it’s definitely worth considering a job that will give you experience like no other…
* EARN £17K+ A YEAR
Being a full-time officer is a proper full-time job, complete with paid holiday and annual leave.
* LEAD A £7.5 MILLION TURNOVER BUSINESS
As an officer of the SU, you’ll also be a Trustee and therefore have important legal and financial responsibilities – imagine how that looks on a C.V.
* LEARN A WEALTH OF PROFESSIONAL SKILLS
Not many students graduate confident in how to write agendas, chair meetings, or make managerial decisions. Officer’s gain incredibly useful experiences and develop the confidence to put your ideas in to action.
* MAKE AN IMPACT
Being an officer allows you to make real changes in all areas of student life and influence university management decisions. What would you really love to improve if given the chance?
* FEEL GREAT
The scope for job satisfaction is endless in this role. You’ll make a positive difference to students’ lives through running high profile campaigns or helping individual students with day to day problems, all of which is really rewarding.
You will be the voice of approximately 17,000 students. You’ll have opportunities to meet tonnes of new people and find out exactly what they want from their university experience.
Sabb = Sabbatical = taking a study break! As long as you are a current student in Swansea University, you can run in the elections. A year out from your degree will offer you the chance to learn from experiences most people won’t ever get to have.
* BECOME MORE EMPLOYABLE
You aren’t going to get this level of responsibility at such a young age anywhere else. You’ll learn about negotiation, time management, multitasking and working with different people. If you take all the opportunities on offer to you as an officer, you can truly shape a prosperous career.
You’ll work alongside a great team of highly motivated, passionate and friendly people, in a truly wonderful organisation. Everything SUSU does has our student’s happiness in its core.
On a more personal note… Standing for Welfare Officer in 2015 and President in 2016 was the best decision I’ve made whilst being in Swansea. Taking part in an election may sound scary, but with your friends supporting you and through meeting great new people running with you along the way, it certainly is an experience that will stay with you forever.
If any of these job benefits sound good to you, then I’d seriously encourage you to nominate yourself and #MakeYourMark Nominations close on 24th February at 3pm. #LoveSwansea
