This investment into one of our key campus facilities is a joint initiative between the University and Students' Union, transforming the current Costcutter store into a brand-new SPAR, bringing an improved shopping experience to the heart of campus.
As one of the UK's best-known convenience retail brands, our new look SPAR will offer students, staff and visitors access to an improved range of everyday essentials, food and drink options, meal deals and great-value products, while continuing to provide the convenience and excellent service our campus community relies on.

Why is Costcutter changing to SPAR?
Swansea University and Swansea University Students' Union are investing in the campus retail offer to provide an enhanced shopping experience. The new SPAR store will offer an improved range of products, great-value promotions and the convenience our campus community relies on.
When will the change happen?
Refurbishment of the current Costcutter store is due to begin on 3 August and is expected to take approximately four weeks, with the new SPAR store opening in September. We'll share confirmed dates as soon as they're available.
Will the shop be closed during the refurbishment?
Yes, the current store will temporarily close while refurbishment works take place.
Will I still be able to buy essentials on campus?
Yes. A temporary pop-up shop will operate from the former Root store, next to the current Costcutter, throughout the refurbishment period.
What will be available in the pop-up shop?
The pop-up shop will stock a selection of everyday essentials, including:
Sandwiches and grab-and-go food
Hot and cold drinks
Snacks and confectionery
Milk, bread and other grocery essentials
Health and personal care products
Other popular convenience items
Will opening hours change?
We'll confirm the opening hours for both the temporary pop-up shop and the new SPAR store before they open.
Will prices change?
We're working with SPAR to introduce new product ranges, pricing and promotions. Further information will be shared closer to the opening.
Will I still be able to buy meal deals?
Yes. SPAR offers a wide range of meal deals and convenience food options. Details of the new offers will be announced before opening.
Will the staff change?
No. You'll continue to be welcomed by the same friendly team who currently operate the store.
Will gift vouchers and payment methods still be accepted?
We'll confirm any changes to payment methods or gift cards before the new store opens.
