Welsh Varsity 2026 brought thousands of students together in Cardiff for one of the biggest and most anticipated days in the student calendar — and what a day it was.

From early morning fixtures through to the evening rugby showpiece, the city was filled with energy, colour and pride, as Swansea students travelled in numbers to support their teams across a packed schedule of sport. With over 50 fixtures taking place across multiple venues, Varsity once again delivered an unforgettable celebration of student sport and community.

A Sea of Green and White

Swansea spirit was on full display throughout the day. Across every venue, students created an incredible atmosphere — bringing noise, colour and passion to every match.

From hockey pitches to athletics tracks, and from courts to water, Swansea teams gave everything in every fixture. While results didn’t go our way overall this year, the commitment, effort and determination shown by every athlete was clear to see.

Cardiff were ultimately crowned Varsity 2026 champions, retaining both the Shield and the Cup in front of more than 10,000 spectators.

Rugby Under the Lights

The day built towards the headline rugby fixtures, where thousands packed into the stands for an electric evening atmosphere.

Despite a tough result on the scoreboard, with Cardiff taking the win, the support from the Swansea crowd never dropped — showcasing exactly what Varsity is all about: pride, passion and backing your team until the final whistle.

More Than Just Results

Varsity is about more than wins and losses. It’s about community, belonging and shared experience — and 2026 delivered that in abundance.

Across the day, students came together to support their friends and teammates and represent Swansea with pride. Whether competing or cheering from the sidelines Varsity continues to be a highlight of student life.

Looking Ahead

While this year’s results didn’t fall in Swansea’s favour, the foundations are strong. The passion of our athletes and the energy of our supporters show exactly what makes Swansea special.

We’ll be back — stronger, louder, and ready to go again.
