Students of Cyrenaeus is a student-led branch of Cyrenaeus, a UK charity with the mission of improving access to burns and reconstructive plastic surgery services across Africa. Although the charity aims to support hospitals throughout the continent, its current work is centred on a developing partnership with St Mary’s Hospital Lacor in Uganda, where visiting clinical teams provide reconstructive surgical care and collaborate with local staff through training and knowledge exchange.
As a society, we organise fundraising activities, educational talks, and awareness campaigns to support the charity’s wider mission and to highlight global challenges surrounding equitable access to surgical care.
We also reflect the multidisciplinary nature of the charity itself. Cyrenaeus brings together surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to deliver sustainable surgical outreach — and we aim to echo this by welcoming students from all disciplines, whether clinical, scientific, or non-medical backgrounds.
If you're interested in global health, surgery, or simply want to contribute to meaningful change, we’d love you to get involved.
