Swansea Labour Students is the student society affiliated to the Welsh Labour Party. As a group we campaign for Labour values on campus and in the Swansea Bay area, alongside hosting a wide range of social activities. We’re a broad- church society and welcome all Labour Party traditions as well as those who are just looking to find out a bit more about politics.
Campaigning: Swansea Labour Students takes pride in its record campaigning for the party and its values over the years. On campus we’ve pushed for the Students Union to take anti-racism more seriously while continually agitating for a Real Living Wage to be paid to people working in the SU. In the city we do our bit helping the homeless with our #KeepSwanseaWarm campaign. Alongside this we actively campaign for the Labour Party across Swansea and beyond. Although the 2019 General Election was a huge disappointment, every seat in Swansea Bay stayed red and we took part in the most campaigning sessions outside our constituency of any Labour society in Wales.
Socials: Socials make up most of the events we host throughout the year. They are a laid- back and friendly environment and probably the best place to start if you’re looking to get involved in the society. We host pub crawls, quizzes, coffee chats as well as joint events with other political societies.
Political Education: We also host a wide range of talks from figures in and around the Welsh Labour and Trade Union movement. In the past these have included the First Minister Mark Drakeford, the Counsel General for Wales Jeremy Miles, Housing and Local Government Minister Julie James and MP for Gower Tonia Antoniazzi to name but a few!
Whether you’re a seasoned campaigner or just interested in finding out more about politics, Swansea Labour Students is the place for you!
