Ecosia

We like to do our bit for the planet. And if we haven’t done enough already, here’s our next bit of exciting news…

We’ve been working with you lot and the Uni’s Sustainability team make Ecosia the default web browser on campus!

Ecosia works just like other search engines but uses its profits to plant trees. From 28th February, it will become the default search engine on all University open access PCs.

At least 80% of the surplus income from Ecosia’s advertising revenue is used to support reforestation projects around the world. Current planting projects include Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Indonesia and Peru.

The #SwanseaOnEcosia campaign to bring Ecosia to campus was initiated by students Jean-louis Button and Alice Evans. We listened to what they had to say, and made it happen.

Your Societies and Services Officer, Chris Freestone, has been working closely with your Part-time Environment Officer, to put all the arrangements in place.

Chris, who studied Geography, said, "It's such an easy way to do your bit for the planet, and it can make a huge difference. It's the same as Google, but better for the environment!"

Our officers make real changes on campus. If you want to make big decisions like this on behalf of students, stand in our upcoming election.

Rydyn ni'n trio gwneud ein rhan am y blaned. Ac os nad ydyn ni wedi gwneud digon yn barod, dyma newyddion cyffrous...

Rydyn ni wedi bod yn gweihtio gyda chi a Thîm Cynaliadwyedd y Brifysgol i sicrhau mai Ecosia yw porwr gwe rhagosodedig y campws!

Mae Ecosia yn gweithio fel porwyr gwe eraill ond yn defnyddio ei elw i blannu coed. O 28ain Chwefrof ymlaen, Ecosia fydd y porwr gwe rhagosodedig ar bob cyfrifiadur agored y Brifysgol.

Mae o leiaf 80% o elw hyrwyddo Ecosia yn cael ei defnyddio i gefnogi prosiectau ailgoedwigo o gwmpas y byd. Mae'r prosiectau cyfredol yn cynnwys Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Indonesia a Perw.

Cafodd yr ymgyrch #SwanseaOnEcosia i ddod ag Ecosia i'r campws ei dechrau gan fyfyrwyr Jean-louis Button ac Alice Evans. Rydyn ni wedi gwrando arnyn nhw, a gwneud iddo ddigwydd.

Mae eich Swyddog Cymdeithasau a Gwasanaethau, Chris Freestone, wedi bod yn gweithio'n agos â Swyddog yr Amgylchedd, Ana, i roi'r trefniadau yn eu lle.

Dywedodd Chris, a astudiodd Daearyddiaeth, "Mae'n ffordd hawdd i wneud eich rhan am y blaned, ac mae'n gallu gwneud gwahaniaeth enfawr. Mae Ecosia fel Google, ond yn well i'r amgylchedd!"

Mae ein swyddogion yn gwneud newidiadau mawr ar y campws. Os hoffet ti wneud penderfyniadau mawr ar ran myfyrwyr, saf yn ein hetholiad.
