Well done to our award calendars!

The amount of support the Movember campaign has had this year had been amazing the wider community at Swansea University. With over 750 staff and students taking part and 55 teams. We have managed to raise over £60,000 for men's health charities.

The move for Movember campaign was a great initiative to get our Mo Sista’s involved in raising awareness and money for the charity. As a university, we smashed our target of 6,000km and have managed to travel over 24,000km!

As an SU, we have managed to raise awareness for testicular cancer, prostate cancer, and men's mental health over the course of the month. Through online talks with Oddballs ambassador Nathan Thomas and a Q/A with Dr. Amol Pandit around testicular and prostate cancer. With the help of the Faculty of Science and Engineering, we hosted a webinar called ‘#ItTakesBalls to talk about Mental Health’ with a panel of key mental health advocates ranging from elite sportsmen and woman to CEOs of mental health charities.

We hosted a variety of mental health workshops, mental health in sports workshops for our club committees, anxiety worships and suicide prevention workshops. Every weekend we have hosted COVID-19 safe sports tournaments including rounders, ultimate frisbee and flag football with the support of the sports teams and Sport Swansea. The list could go on with all the amazing student groups hosted events like team walks to the mumbles and pub quizzes. It really has been a great month.

However, we can't let the discussion stop here around men's mental and physical health. The rate of male suicide is alarmingly high with 3 out of 4 suicides in the UK are men. At Swansea University, The Samuel Claydon Smith Award will be award at the SU Awards each year for the student group that has been most committed across the academic year for raising awareness men's mental health at the university. You can contact Liza Leibowitz, our Welfare Officer, for more details on how your student group can make a positive impact on men's mental health and find the specific criteria for the award.

I feel extremely proud of all the students and staff at Swansea University for their commitment to the Movember campaign this year. I have loved playing a supporting role in helping to raise awareness and funds for the charity this November. I can't wait to see what next year’s Movember campaign will have in store, hopefully, without the limitations of a global pandemic!

Da iawn i’n holl enillwyr!

Mae cefnogaeth ymgyrch Movember eleni wedi bod yn anhygoel gan gymuned ehangach Prifysgol Abertawe. Gyda dros 750 o staff a myfyrwyr yn cymryd rhan a 60 tîm. Rydyn ni wedi llwyddo i godi dros £55,000 ar gyfer elusennau iechyd dynion.

Roedd yr ymgyrch symud ar gyfer Movember yn fenter wych i gael ein Chwiorydd Mo i gymryd rhan mewn codi ymwybyddiaeth ac arian i’r elusen. Fel prifysgol, chwalon ni ein targed o 6,000km ac rydyn ni wedi llwyddo i deithio dros 24,000km!

Fel UM, rydyn ni wedi llwyddo i godi ymwybyddiaeth o ganser y ceilliau, canser y prostad, ac iechyd meddwl dynion yn ystod y mis. Trwy sgyrsiau ar-lein gyda llysgennad Oddballs, Nathan Thomas a Sesiwn Holi gyda Dr. Amol Pandit ynghylch canser y ceilliau a chanser y prostad. Gyda chymorth y Gyfadran Gwyddoniaeth a Pheirianneg, cynhalion ni weminar o’r enw ‘#ItTakesBalls: Siarad am Iechyd Meddwl’ gyda phanel o eiriolwyr iechyd meddwl allweddol yn amrywio o chwaraewyr elitaidd i Brif Weithredwyr elusennau iechyd meddwl.

Cynhalion ni amrywiaeth o weithdai iechyd meddwl, gweithdai iechyd meddwl mewn chwaraeon ar gyfer pwyllgorau ein clybiau, addoliadau pryder a gweithdai atal hunanladdiad. Bob penwythnos, rydyn ni wedi cynnal twrnameintiau chwaraeon diogel gan gynnwys rownderi, ffrisbi a phêl-droed baneri gyda chefnogaeth y timau chwaraeon a Chwaraeon Abertawe. Gallai'r rhestr fynd ymlaen gyda'r holl grwpiau o fyfyrwyr anhygoel yn cynnal digwyddiadau fel teithiau cerdded tîm i'r Mwmbwls a chwisiau tafarn. Mae wedi bod yn fis gwych.

Ond, ni allwn ni adael i'r drafodaeth ynghylch iechyd meddwl a chorfforol dynion stopio yma. Mae cyfradd hunanladdiad dynion yn ddychrynllyd o uchel gyda 3 allan o 4 hunanladdiad yn y DU gan ddynion. Ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe, bydd Gwobr Samuel Claydon Smith yn cael ei dyfarnu yng Ngwobrau UM bob blwyddyn i'r grwp o fyfyrwyr sydd wedi ymrwymo fwyaf at godi ymwybyddiaeth o iechyd meddwl dynion yn y brifysgol dros y flwyddyn academaidd. Gallwch chi gysylltu â Liza Leibowitz, ein Swyddog Lles, i gael mwy o fanylion ar sut y gall eich grwp o fyfyrwyr gael effaith gadarnhaol ar iechyd meddwl dynion a dod o hyd i'r meini prawf ar gyfer ennill y wobr.

Rwy'n teimlo'n hynod falch o'r holl fyfyrwyr a staff ym Mhrifysgol Abertawe am eu hymrwymiad i ymgyrch Movember eleni. Rydw i wedi bod wrth fy modd yn chwarae rhan gefnogol wrth helpu i godi ymwybyddiaeth ac arian ar gyfer yr elusen ym mis Tachwedd. Ni allaf aros i weld ymgyrch Movember y flwyddyn nesaf, gobeithio heb gyfyngiadau pandemig byd-eang!
